Default Op Monson torpedo problem

Just a quick question, I've noticed my torpedoes passing clean through the hulls of ships I'm shooting at (and not in a cool way that leaves a hole). Can anybody explain why this might be happening?

The target was a Dutch merchant in the 1939 campaign and I was playing on quite an easy setting. It's baffling (and quite annoying as it's wasted nearly all of my torps for this patrol).

1st of all the dutch where neutral until 10 may 1940.

2nd are you sure the torps didn't ran deep?

Hmm, well it's quite likely that the difficulty setting or whatever might have just stopped me from committing an international incident.

I wondered about the torps running deep myself at first and adjusted fire accordingly, the last shot I watched literally pass through the hull.

It's just happened again, this time with a British ship. Although I did manage to hit another ship, albeit with a stray shot. Has anybody else had anything like this?

Can't say that I have.

I've had them dud, detonate prematurely and run deep. But I've never had them go through a ship. That's usually when they'd either explode, or bounce off the keel.

Are you using some kind of a ship add-on mod that might be causing issues?

Nope I'm going for a pretty basic set of mods as outlined in the Monson thread. Am going to try a different campaign, see if that helps.

heard of a similar problem, must be about 6 months ago. Can't remember what the solution was. Are you sure it weren't deep runners?

Date: September 1939 (different dates therein, but both in that month)
Location: Just east of the British Isles in both instances. Nearest town was Hartlepool.
Type of Sub: IIB and a IIC.
Flotilla: 1 and 7
Mods (in install order):
Opsmonsun V705
OMv705 to V720
OMv720 Patch 2
OMEGU_v300
OMEGU_v300 Patch 5a

Other relevant facts: I've had a torpedo impact once in the two campaigns I've started, missed a corvette, hit a light cargo ship of some kind. I've tried both types of detonator. Fairly sure the only type of torpedo I've tried is the conventional one fired at fast speed, not the electric ones.

In terms of the actual impacts themselves, or lack thereof, I've literally watched the torpedoes go clean through the target on two occasions, so it's not going under the hull or hitting and sinking, they just ghost through.

Am running v1.5 of the game.

I've started a campaign with a different class of sub at a later period, I'll report back if I can hit something, cos if I can I'll want to show it off.

The following relevant facts are missing:

Class ID of targets and game play settings

I would like to point out that if there was a generic problems with both the ship damage model and the Torpedo's then I think some of the over 6000 people that have downloaded and used OM would have said something by now.

It should be noted that the early war torpedoes had historical depth keeping problems until Feb 42.

However I will look in to it

I think this actually might be graphic issue related.

Perhaps residual issues from using alt-tab combined with your video settings?

Does the game run smoothly?

Other than that, the only other thing I can think of is perhaps something got scrambled or corrupted during install.

Based on controlled test, unable to recreate your problem

Well thanks for giving it a punt, I'll try reinstalling the mods.

Had another weird issue with a ship taking over a hundred rounds from the deck gun but not sinking. It took damage, even caught fire, twice, but didn't sink. Something is properly not right I think. :S

Let AI do the shooting and use the "aim at water line" option

Ah okay, I did suspect it might not be broken, just realistically and scornfully reflecting me peppering the ship with HE shells like a nub.
