According to MS, Windows 10 is the last full iteration of Windows. For the foreseeable future, MS will only release updates to Win 10 in lieu of releasing new versions. I am somewhat skeptical this will last long, particularly given the pressures of marketing strategies: "What, you've still got Win 10 on you device? I've got OS XIV on mine"...

Ok, this PC is one year old, but .. huh? Just of all the Network adapter??? Well i could kind of configure this adapter, maybe Windows 10 does not like that?
You've probably already tried this, but check your WLAN USB stick's support website and see if they have released any new driver or software specifically for Win 10. The HP Stream 7 on which I installed Win 10 has a problem with a docking station that provides USB audio; the docking stations website has noted the problem and has posted a workaround until they can fully update their drivers; perhaps your LAN stick might have a workaround. Also, if you are not automatically allowing updates from MS, be aware a cumulative update was recently released that appears to address many of the current problems regarding third-party software/hardware problems. The same Stream 7 had a problem with an inability to install some HP updates; after the cumulative update, the problem is gone...

Of course I do. It all started with Bush II.

Anyway, good job politicizing a Windows OS thread

Hmm Neal, wasn't that you with Obama and the Nazis (post 111)
(yes i know you blinked)

Ok last time, then i promise not to bring it up again here
This describes it much better, AND in english. They talk about how you do not own things anymore, and commercial ideas are not so far away from what the NSA does:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/bill-m...b_4848282.html

Describes perfectly, what Google, Apple and Microsoft used to do. The new Win 10 is imho (!) perfectly designed for this.
But they see they are losing big money overseas, since People outside the US do not like this - will this change it ? Maybe .. if money's involved

Always the alternative Jim.

The Britannica series is updated once a year. A salesperson will arrive at your door for a demonstration. There will be from time to time a update mailed throughout the year. Simply download from your mailbox and file it in the appropriate book. Reboot is not required. Try before you buy. The abacus will always remain the same.

Are these final releases or are they beta and/or developer's releases? One ought to know before committing to a new system...

I will believe it is beyond the pale when my navigation app detours me an additional five miles to make me drive by an ice cream shop I've liked on Facebook or browsed their home page the other day. And I'm afraid that time may be here very soon if it is not already here.

Last night I was wondering why is Microsoft giving away Widows 10 free, its been my experience in life you don't get anything for free its a illusion. Like shop bargains like BOGOF's it is the business of a shop to make money which in turn is profit and the same goes for Microsoft. So I'm left wondering is there some sort of sinister agenda of some sort?

Problem is if it is how do we know and how do we find out and how do we separate facts from fiction?

Ponder over that when your next drinking tea or coffee on a winters night.

They're only giving it away free to people who have already paid for an earlier version. Anyone building their own computer will have to buy it, and though I'm sure it is discounted for bulk rates companies offering it with new PCs have to pay. My guess is that they're worried about losses due to the flak over Windows 8 and want to get as many good reports as they can for future sales.

We don't. It does remind me of a funny memory from long ago. When the birth-control pill became available in 1960 there was one newspaper columnist who made a joke about long-term side effects. "What if twenty years from now everybody who takes these suddenly grows a third leg or something?"

While there may be unexpected consequences arising from Windows 10, I doubt there is anything intentionally sinister going on. And if there is? Well, I'm old and don't mind playing the guinea pig.

On a related note I was offered and downloaded the latest version of Classic Shell, fine-tuned for Windows 10.

This looks like the Microsoft Corporation's standard policy. Get as many people to use Windows 10 as fast as possible to make its new features adopted as early as they can, thereby breaking compatibility with older versions of the operating system in any software that uses them and causing more people to upgrade.

Windows 10 also happens to feature Microsoft's ever increasing attempts to restrict control of the operating system's functions to users, not to mention their infamous data collection nonsense, so they benefit from more people moving to it in those regards as well.
