No sound 688i
Hi
I've installed the navy pack on both laptops running win7/64 and xp/32. The version is 1.0.8 of the exe file. Still i only get the intro and in game music. SC and DW works fine but it's frustrating me 688 having no crew sounds in both laptops...anyone having the same issue? |

Do you have the correct drivers for your laptop?

This solution might help. 688i is a DOS-era application, right? Windows 95 compatibility is as close to DOS as you can get in the later Windows versions. Aside from Dosbox ofcourse.

thats odd i play the game in my daughters laptop and it runs fine with the sound in its glory, but firts what sound card do you have in yours? and what version of windows do you have install? my daughters is win 7 and no compatibility mode use. strange isnt it? there most be a conflict somewhere in your laptop, did you try the game somewhere else and it has sound? or maybe the crew speech is off.
i will check on my duaghters laptop and see what she has on her install. |

OMG, you are a lucky person...
I have 3 laptops, one 5 years old with XP 32, 1 toshiba and 1 Asus. Both WIn7 64. Each of them with a different onboard soundcard. All of them Jane's 688i has no sound with the same problem. I checked all settings and only the music plays right. I tried to load it with every compatible check mark on the .exe proporties and still the same result. I'm really lost there. I'll see which card I have on each... |

hahahahahaha, that will be awesome, man tell me something the other games do they have sound and speech? i mean, i dont get it, why sound and no speech, if the sound and speech comes thru the same way, i dont think is your computer, i think maybe the game itself is wrong, by any chances, doesnt it have a speech pack that you most decompress or something? because is very weird to have sound and no speech, see if there is some files that must be decompress or something, and let me know.

Did you ever solve your sound problem with Jane's 688? I've got the same thing, music is ok but no sounds or speech. Tried it on 3 diffrent computers, all were with windows XP. Thanks, Michael |

Sorted out!
Okay guys, just to pass along an hour's work for you. I bought a copy of the game off amazon for 18 bucks, installed, and ran fine, except no sound effects. Messed with every setting, reinstalled, tried downloading new DLLs, etc etc. Nothing worked. I came across a website (I thope it works... http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManage...rsion&iId=9914 ) that gave a tutorial on how to fix the sound in sub command. I came across another link ( http://www.old-games.ru/forum/archiv...p/t-29184.html ) that directed me to links of the original sound files. I'm not sure if the one that came with the game had all the right sounds or not...
Anyhow, if you download the program from the second link above ( it's called scsoundedit.exe) and use it to open the sfx.agg file, then unzip those files into the Sfx folder, all the sound effects started working! However, if your sounds still dont work after that, you will have to download the file from the first link, overwrite your Sfx.agg file with the downloaded one, then unzip all the files using the scsoundedit program. Finally I can hear whats going on! Hope it helps! |

Tks krispy
I will test it these days once I get 688 back. It's been really annoying this sound problem and only 688 has this. Fleet Command is OK. |

Worked Like A charm!
I used the utility to extract the sound files, and now I can hear them. My heartfelt thanks, especially since I just got sunk in Shells of Fury and need a new ride.
