Chechnya under Moscow-backed authoritarian rule of Ramzan Kadyrov has undergone its own controversial counter-campaign of Islamization of the republic, with the local government actively promoting and enforcing their own version of a so-called "traditional Islam", including introducing elements of Sharia that replaced Russian official laws.

Ukraine says Russia has launched a wave of missile attacks across the country including in the capital, Kyiv, where two explosions were heard.

Kyiv’s mayor says parts of the capital are without power and water.

Russia has been stepping up its attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure as winter approaches.

Officials say power cuts have also been reported in the north-eastern city of Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia in the south.

It comes after Russia accused Ukraine of a "massive" drone attack on the Black Sea Fleet in Sevastopol, Crimea.

Russia has announced it is pulling out of the internationally-brokered deal that allows Ukraine to export grain from its Black Sea ports.

Moscow is hoping to demoralise Ukrainians to plead for peace

Moscow would like this latest wave of Russian missile strikes to be seen as a punitive response to Ukraine’s drone attack on Russian military targets in Crimea on Saturday.

The Kremlin sees this as a warning: you dare to hit us in Crimea? This is what you can expect in response.

But there is a clear pattern emerging in recent weeks in this war. The more setbacks Russia’s army faces on the battlefield the more its commanders punish Ukraine’s civilian population.

With winter just around the corner Moscow is hoping to so demoralise Ukrainians that they plead with their government to sue for peace - on Russia’s terms.

So far, that’s unlikely to happen. But there is still a huge amount of damage and suffering that Russia’s weapons can inflict on the civilian population.

The Kremlin will also be hoping that as this war drags on, Western support for Ukraine begins to weaken.

Russia’s aim is to break the supply chain of Western weapons that allows Ukraine to defend itself and try to push back this Russian invasion.

Russian attacks aim to demoralise Ukraine ahead of winter

The Russian targets are now all too familiar: energy infrastructure in cities across Ukraine, including in places away from the frontline. This, officials here say, is part of a strategy to destroy critical facilities ahead of winter and demoralise Ukrainians, who will probably have to endure power cuts in a country where temperatures can drop to -20C.

Russia’s airstrikes, using missiles and Iranian-made kamikaze attack drones, have destroyed a third of the Ukrainian electricity infrastructure, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky. Cities and towns are already experiencing rolling blackouts, and residents have been urged to reduce their consumption.

“Instead of fighting on the battlefield, Russia fights civilians,” Dmytro Kuleba, the Ukrainian foreign minister, said this morning, echoing a view shared by many Ukrainians. “Russia does this because it still has the missiles and the will to kill Ukrainians.”

Ukraine says it needs more air defence capabilities to defend its cities from what it has described as Russian “terrorism”. Germany has already sent equipment, and the UK and the US have announced they will do so.

Russian forces have often fired dozens of missiles and drones almost simultaneously, in an attempt to overwhelm Ukraine’s air defence. Kyiv, however, has been incredibly successful in shooting most of them down. This morning, they said they had intercepted 44 cruise missiles.

Russia continues barbaric missile strikes on Ukraine, trying to leave it in cold and dark on eve of winter, - US Ambassador Brink

The US ambassador to Ukraine, Bridget Brink, commented on the massive missile fire launched by Russia today.

She reported this on Twitter, Censor.NET informs.

"Like millions of Ukrainians, our US Embassy team is once again in hiding as Russia continues its callous and barbaric missile strikes on the people of Ukraine, trying to leave the country in the cold and dark ahead of winter," the diplomat said. Source: https://censor.net/en/n3377219

Ukraine has adapted to this new technology, has fielded it and developed attack tactics for it.

It raises questions about the current doctrine of naval warfare, like the high kill ratios acchieved by drone and ATGM attacks on tanks and armoured vehicles raises questions on tank doctrine, too.

AI drones are the future. Autonomous AI drones are the future after that. And after that comes autonomou swarm AI drones.

The chance for regulating this by treaties and laws, I see as practically nill.

I am not 100% convinced that mankind will survive this.

Turkey will continue to work with "grain agreement", despite Russia’s "hesitation", - Erdogan

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the country would continue efforts to find a solution to the global food crisis.

This is reported by Censor.NET with reference to Anadolu.

According to him, thanks to the supply of 9.3 million tons of agricultural products from Ukraine, it was possible to relatively reduce the food crisis in the world.

"And although Russia hesitates... we will resolutely continue our efforts to serve humanity," the Turkish leader said.

Also remind, that on October 29, the Ministry of Defense of Russia announced that the Russian Federation would stop participating in the implementation of the "grain agreement" due to a drone attack on a ship of the Black Sea Fleet. Source: https://censor.net/en/n3377264

Meanwhile, Putin's also looking for a way out.

Quote:
LONDON (Reuters) -President Vladimir Putin's foreign minister on Sunday needled Joe Biden over Ukraine, saying that he hoped the U.S. president had the wisdom to deal with a global confrontation similar to the 1962 Cuban missile crisis.

Russia's invasion of Ukraine has triggered the biggest confrontation between Moscow and the West since the Cuban crisis when the Soviet Union and United States came close to nuclear war.

Then-U.S. President John Kennedy discovered that Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev had deployed nuclear missiles on Cuba after the failed Bay of Pigs invasion - a U.S.-backed attempt by Cuban exiles to overthrow Communist rule that was thwarted by Cuba - and the U.S. deployment of missiles in Italy and Turkey.

In an interview for a Russian state television documentary on the missile crisis, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said there were similarities to 1962, largely because Russia was now threatened by Western weapons in Ukraine.

"I hope that in today's situation, President Joe Biden will have more opportunities to understand who gives orders and how," Lavrov said. "This situation is very disturbing."

"The difference is that in the distant 1962, Khrushchev and Kennedy found the strength to show responsibility and wisdom, and now we do not see such readiness on the part of Washington and its satellites," Lavrov said.

A spokesperson for the White House National Security Council declined to comment on Lavrov's statements but pointed to past comments about keeping lines of communication open with Moscow.

The top U.S. and Russian generals held talks by phone on Monday for the first time since May, a day after the U.S. and Russian defense ministers spoke for second time in three days after not speaking since May.

On Oct. 27, 1962, the world came close to nuclear war when a Soviet submarine captain wanted to launch a nuclear weapon after the U.S. Navy dropped depth charges around the submarine.

Later that day, Kennedy secretly agreed to remove all missiles in Turkey in exchange for Khrushchev removing all missiles in Cuba. The crisis was diffused, though it became a symbol of the perils of superpower rivalry in the Cold War.

President Vladimir Putin cites the West's dismissal of Russian concerns about the security of post-Soviet Europe, and in particular the enlargement of the NATO military alliance eastwards, as one of the causes of the conflict.

The United States and its European allies say Russian concerns are overblown and cannot justify the invasion of a former Soviet neighbour whose borders Moscow recognised after the 1991 collapse of the Soviet Union.

Ukraine says it will fight until it has ejected every Russian from its territory, casting Russia's big power diplomacy as a sham used to distract from an imperial-style land grab that Kyiv says is doomed.

Asked what Russia should do now in the current crisis, Lavrov said: "The readiness of Russia, including President Vladimir Putin, for negotiations remains unchanged."

Russia uses airspace of Moldova to attack Ukraine, - Air Force

The Russian occupiers have repeatedly used the airspace of Moldova for attacks on the territory of Ukraine.

This was reported by the spokesman of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Yurii Ihnat, Censor.NET reports.

"Ukraine is being attacked both from the south and from the north. Moreover, they are using the territory of Moldova, its airspace, for terrorist attacks on Ukraine. This is another crime that needs to be documented and shown to the Western community because it is not the first time they have fired missiles at Ukraine through Moldova. To the west, to the southwest," he said.

Also, according to Ihnat, flights of enemy drones 5-10 kilometers from the Romanian border were repeatedly recorded.

"In other words, an operational-tactical-level drone provokes NATO countries in this way," added the spokesman of the Air Force. Source: https://censor.net/en/n3377294
