The sky just might not be falling Chicken Little

Quote:
Doctors across the world are offering preliminary but encouraging reports that the coronavirus may be losing steam and becoming less deadly: a behavior observed in at least one respiratory pandemic before, and a welcome sign for a world weary of nonstop COVID-19 fears. Optimism over the coronavirus has been in short supply since January, when public health officials and politicians began publicly and repeatedly speculating that COVID-19 may be a semi-permanent fixture of global life for the foreseeable future, possibly for years.
The phrase "the new normal" has become an omnipresent part of American life, with medical experts such as Dr. Anthony Fauci speculating that Americans may never shake each other's hands again, and some officials imagining that "social distancing" may persist into 2022 if not beyond.
But numerous prominent doctors and scientists in the last few weeks and months have begun to question that narrative, pointing to evidence that suggests the coronavirus may, unexpectedly, be dying out on its own.
Virus appears to behave the same regardless of lockdown measures
Yitzhak Ben Israel, a professor at Tel Aviv University, offered early speculation to that effect when in April he said, based on the observed behavior of the virus across the globe, that the virus appears to function more or less the same no matter what a country does to mitigate it. He said the virus appears to follow a fixed pattern in which there is "a decline in the number of infections even [in countries] without closures" that is "similar to the countries with closures."

Talking about being off-line from the society

Quote:
He had spent that time in silent meditation in a cabin in remote northwestern Vermont, where he is part of a Buddhist monastic community. During his 75 days in isolation, his hair had grown out. The last snow of winter had melted, and the trees had budded. Frogs had come out of hibernation and begun peeping.

New Zealan d has seen it dslast Covid-19 patien tbeing released. The nation has declared itself formally as free of Covid-19 now.

NZ ran one of the most restrictive policies in the world against the virus. I wonder how their economy is looking, i have no clue. It seems they thought they could afford it, else they would not have done it, yes?

They want to stop their restrictuions now,m which I find good as far as their doemstic policy is concerned, but I would be cautious at their borders and still keep an eye on now incoming travellers. Germany and Europe has seen warning examples already, infeciton during air travels and on trains.

Some groups are exempt such as road haulage workers and travellers from the Republic of Ireland.

The move is controversial, with airlines and travel companies saying it is unjustified.

Five countries account for more than half of the world's Covid-19 cases, which now stand at just over seven million, according to the map and dashboard from Johns Hopkins University.

The United States has the highest number of confirmed cases so far - with more than 1.9 million.

With nearly 700,000 cases, Brazil comes second, followed by Russia (467,073), the UK (287,621) and India (257,486).

https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-020-2404-8

In a new study they analysed numbers from South Korea, China, Italy, Iran, France and the US and concluded that the anti-contagion policies run in these countries helped to prevent the infection of 530 million people.

They authors in another team of that study further concluded that in eleven countries of Europe the death of 3.1 million people was prevented.

Quoting from a German summary on the studies, the director of one of the study teams said that never before has there been a measurement implemented in the history of mankind that saved so many lives in so short a time.

I would just laugh about those stupid Corona protesters, if I would not find them so disgusting already. Lets assume a lethality of just 1%, in case of the number of the prevented infections in the six countries mentioned in the first paragraph, these six countries would have seen 5.3 million dead if nothing would have been done about the virus. Such ratios are where playing polite with cynical idiots as if they would deserve respect, must end.

What these numbers illustrate further is how very successful so far the general global anti-contagion efforts have been.

Its a dilemma. The measurements obviously were successful, and the worst realisation of "what could have been", has not materialised. But right this absence of the worst case scenario now serves as a foul excuse for many people to question that the measurements were necessary. It cannot get any more absurd. The same peope would have been the first to complain (if they had survived) if nothing would have been done (as they now demand), and the pandemic would have spread uncontrolled, and scores more would have suffered and died. Absurd, absurd, absurd.

The number of prevented 530 million infections prevented in those six countries also illustrates another thing: how incredibly infectous and dangerous this virus is.

Researchers: Satellite images hint coronavirus started in China earlier than first reported

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/polit...ed/ar-BB15cmw7

Quote:
Study authors told ABC News that analysis of data from as far back as October of last year indicated a surge in vehicle traffic around hospitals in the city, a spike that coincided with a rise in internet search traffic for "certain symptoms that would later be determined as closely associated with the novel coronavirus" from residents of the city.

"Something was happening in October," Dr. John Brownstein, the study's leader, told ABC. "Clearly, there was some level of social disruption taking place well before what was previously identified as the start of the novel coronavirus pandemic."

Johnsonomics. Makes soooo much sense, now that practically every country in Europe has a much lower infection risk than the UK. Following that kind of "logic" this late in the game , it maybe would make more sense that if continetal Europeans travel to the UK, all UK natives should quarantine.

Really, Boris. That was something for some months back. Now it makes little sense anymore. At least as far as travellers from safer places than the Uk are concerned. You are late!
