Default Long range fire

Hi folks !

Since I bought the game, I always wanted to see naval battles with ships firing at long distances (30 km, as in real life). So I changed the max visual range in the AI sensors in the Library, but without effects. I don't know how to realize my wish... Is anyone able to help me, please ?

Hi,

you may take a look into ...\data\cfg\sim.cfg

There you´ll find "AI cannons" and: "Max fire range=..."

But be careful. Since this is a global value, every fishing trawler will now engange you. You may experience with the "minheight" or "Minsurface" values or something like that, whiche you´ll find in your AI_Sensors.dat.

Good luck.

Thank you for the quick reply !

Unfortunately, AI max fire range was already fixed by myself at 37000 meters.
I've also tried to enlarge sky, clouds and fog models, but without result.
There is something I don't understand

OK, I found the solution, it was in scene.dat (ObjectsRelativeZMax).

But now the secondary armament fires even if its shells can not cover all the way to the target....

It seems they didn't think of adding in realistic big ships when they designed their submarine game.

How thoughtless of them.

What's the spawn distance in SH3?
Say you have the 16Km mod installed?
How can a ship fire on another at 30Km?

Yeah, with a 16 km atmosphere, YOU won't see anything beyond 16 km, but that doesn't mean that the AI is not capable of that, if you fixe the appropriate parameters !
