Rescue Enemy Pilots?

I'm guessing that if there's any rescuing of pilots to be done, the game will only allow it to be friendly pilots for a mission? I tried getting within 100 meters of a Sunderland crew's red smoke, stopping the boat, and using binocs, etc... Didn't seem to give me the option. Playing OM w/ OMEGU.

Yep. You can rescue friendlies, but no captures.

This raises a minor annoyance: You rescue friendly pilots, but they're not actually on board. I would love to see either the man himself or at least his name listed for the rest of the patrol.

I think the reason for this is because the fuhrer didnt want anyone (especially u-boats) to rescue survivors, in fact, U-boat captains ordered survivors to be killed with the flak guns. Survivors that weren't killed would report the U-boats position with much eagerness

You need to cite a source for that claim. We just had that discussion and there is only one, verified case of that happening.

Nor would an agent or group awaiting insertion work aboard the boat. I don't want to assigne them jobs, I just want it acknowledged that they're taking up space aboard the boat. When I played SH1 and picked up pilots I gave them imaginary tours, even though they weren't there.

Yea its not necessarily an event caught on film, nor bragged about afterward. But as a realist, I can honestly believe that it more than likely happened more than once. U-boats, amongst other naval ships know that an enemy survivor can report your position, which is a big no no , especially for submarines which have stealth as a primary weapon.

But solid evidence? No.

I often roleplay in sh4. I take a little puff puff at a certain depth from time to time

I have 2 books about submarines that report at least 3 or 4 cases where this happened. It happened on the japanese, american and german side. One of the books is from Franz Kurowski who was aboard a german U-Boat himself and he tells one such case where a german commander did this (who was later court-martialed after the war and shot). The other book reports a rather famous american commander killing japanese survivors (and one japanese survivor trying to throw a handgrenade at the sub in another case) and the japanese seem to have shot at survivors more than once according to the book.

What you or I can honestly believe is irrelevant. You said "in fact" when in fact you knew no such thing. I'm sorry to be harsh, but when claiming something that evil you need to have proof at hand.

Yes, we're all aware of the Wahoo incident, and we're aware of the Eck incident. My point is that you said "captains". That implies several. If you had said that one did it on each side I wouldn't have a problem.

Yes I do. My only saving grace is that I recognize them. As for winning, as I see it the need to win is a problem in itself. This might explain why I rarely do, but there it is.

Of course I constantly ask myself the question: Do I lose because I don't care, or do I make myself not care because I always lose anyway? Being a sociopath is so hard sometimes.
