Default Odd Destroyer/Corvette behaviour

I just finished two of the oddest patrols ever. I am playing stock 1.4 (man do I need a new computer, would love to try GWX). Anyway here is the tale.

I left Brest for a patrol of BE99. Weather was calm and all was good. Days go by and not a ship in sight. After finishing my patrol of the grid I decide to head for BF14-17 to hopefully get some better hunting. No sooner do I get to BF14, I get a contact, Warship, long range.

I take a look, Tribal, he is heading fast in my direction, quickly I get under, slowly, slowly moving away. He is not changing course, no pinging. He is obviously not after me, just on a patrol. Maybe I will teach him who is the hunted.

Periscope depth, lets take a look. He will be heading right across my stern at about 1300 m. Set the torpedo, wait, FIRE.

A perfect hit, dead center. Hmmm, no enemy target destroyed. I am sure it will be any minute now. Any minute now. Any minute now. OK come on sink already. After an hour, he is still sitting there, dead in the water and low in the water, barely above the deck.

Fine if it is another torp you want, another one you will get. Line up stern shot, Fire, Hit. Well that should take care of that.

Half hour later and I am still looking at him.

This is getting frustrating. Fine, now I am mad. Turn around. Full salvo will turn him into a large roman candle. Fire all tubes. Four hits back to front. There take that.

Half hour later I am still looking at him.

Fine, lets change tactics, back off to 2000 m. Dead astern. Surface the boat, man the deck gun. I will not waste another torpedo on you. As soon as I open fire, so does he. With a few well placed opening shots, I manage to take out his aft guns, NOW you are mine, I declare.

I let loose with everything I have. I fire every AP shell, every HE shell that I have. That will teach him.

Half hour later I am still looking at him.

I cruise by and have look at what is left of him. Not a gun left on deck, to be honest there was nothing left on deck. No guns, no stacks, no nothing. The side above and below the waterline looked black from end to end from the shelling and torpedos. Still he had not sunk one inch lower in the water.

Fine I will probably reload this patrol anyway. Fire another full spread. By this time, I can not even get excited by hits. Yeaa, four more hits. "Enemy destroyed". Well about time.

Ok, Fine lets just replay that patrol, seeing as how I expended all my munitions except for 1 torp to get 1800 t.

Reload, try two. Patrol grid, as usual, everything seems fine. There is no way I am going north to BF. I know lets go down by Gibraltar. Got to be better. Make my way down and run into a convoy. This is going to be more like it.

Set up for my attack, check the scope. Awesome a liner, tankers, troop transports. Attack goes well. I take the engines out of the Liner, a T3 and destroy a troop transport. Escorts are all over me, but I evade and go deep. Now to creep to a safe distance and hang around to finish off my prey.

I move off to about 3000 m and wait. I am sure those Flowers will give up soon enough and re-join the convoy. They are nowhere near me. Hours pass, still there. Any time now. Hours pass. Any time now. Listening to the hydrophone they are still turning screws pretty fast up there. Any time now. Awwwh come one. Fine, secure from silent running, reload torps, periscope depth. If you won't leave I will send you to the bottom. Although I am not saying that with a lot of confidence based on previous events.

Periscope depth, slowly move in for a look.

There is the Liner and T3 sitting about 500 m apart, dead in the water, as expected. They are surrounded by four Flowers, everyone of them is sitting at 45 degrees with their bows in the air and their sterns under water. Totally undamaged, props churning away and going nowhere. Another WTF moment.

So I did the only thing I could "Sink em all" and head for home.

I sure hope my next patrol is not in the Twilight Zone.

Is your game patched to 1.4b?

Yes, running 1.4b. It was the strangest thing. By the end all I could do was shake my head and laugh.
