Cities

I did a search, but didn't see a thread regarding this specifically... Has anyone created a mission in which a major city was recreated building by building? I know there are limited structure types available, but it seems feasible (of course, I say this as someone who has only edited other's missions, not written one). Take Manhattan; it has thousands of buildings. Can it be populated with structures from river to river, or is there some kind of critical mass when it comes to adding objects? The thought of a TLAM strike on the UN, or an embassy, seems like a good mission idea, but a sole building on a green island seems laughable.

Adding a lot of buildings decreases the game performance a lot.

Someone, I think Dr.Sid, asked if someone can make a kind of city or skyline as an individual big building, that for sure will be great.
Is difficult because to model objects for DW you need 3DS max 3.1 and very few people has it...

Thanks for the info.

I did wonder if that would be an issue (video/performance), but I doubted it would be as much of an issue on a rig with high-end graphics. (Not that I have one) I guess if new building models could be consolidated it would help, but maybe there's a way to merge the current models, or have DW treat several as one target? (Daydreaming again?)

I used a conglomeration of a bunch of different kinds of buildings together to create a giant "druglord mansion" for one mission, complete with private hangar and helipad out back. Of course it was all in one spot, but I found it kind of funny.

It is possible, but the game will be like 14 gigs. THe Flight Simulator has many buildings and realism the problem is the game will be way too big and might be slow and it will have high system requirements. If they make such a game will ALL subs playable and with different panels for each I will def buy it, no matter how big and whatever system requirements... I hope they do, but its unlikely. And imagine if you can see the crewman and order them to carry out different task and for them to answer... a vision I don't think any1 would do. We will see what the future holds. I just hope I dont get too old by then lol.

I thought I'd bump this since CPU's and GPU's have come along a bit since my OP. Considering RA and AT offer nukes, cities would be nice to utilize them fully.

Is it more viable now?
