Default Why was the naval gub removed on the VII/C-41

It would have looked awesome with four guns three anti aircraft and the front 8.8 naval guns. Why was this removed by the Kriegsmarine?

Purpose of the deck gun was sinking unarmed, unescorted merchants. By the time VIIC/41 entered service, almost all merchants were armed and escorted, and to make matters worse skies were crawling with Allied planes, making deck gun a heavy useless weight. This led to replacing it with additional AA guns.
