Reinforce Alert 1.50 Question
I have a question for those playing this mod in 2021.
What distance can be considered "safe" for surface contact and submarines if I need to avoid detection entirely? Like, within what range is it pretty much guaranteed to be detected no matter what you do? |

For ships without sonars you can even cavitate few meters under their keel undetected.

I might as well add my 1.50 question here:
How do you get the best value out of the Towed Arrays on the 688 Flt1? I was trying to track a Foxtrot, on the same layer - the Hull and Bow Sonars heard him before the towed - almost like it's not working... The towed (spooled all the way out) picked up his first frequency at 3 NM (6,000 yds) but won't assign a tracker (still madly pressing the button!) I need to do more testing, but to me this seems strange.... Cheers Stew

It is weird
Usually 688's TA can pickup an old generation diesel electric submarine's Narrow band signal >15nm what's the length of the TA and what's the speed of 688i? I would guess the speed is too low so the TA dipped below the layer another explanation is TA is following your submarine's maneuver , it is a curve shape and not straight behind your sub. in that case it will not be able to locate the contact at the same direction from the hull / bow sonar |

It feels to me like there was a big drop in towed array performance overall going to 1.5. Having the towed array on any western boat out to less than half length can't pick up anything that isn't a cruise liner <~5nm away, and I can only hear warships and submarines at all if they are equally close and the array is completely extended.
I've tried several single missions and campaigns since updating and I usually get blown out of the water by something I couldn't hear that got within a few miles of me, it's pretty frustrating |
