I'm surprised the forum doesn't have a sticky for Rivet Counting.

For the record, I am not one of the obsessed anal "rivet counters' as you may be implying... ...and I seldom, if ever, comment on the poor quality of some of the Screencaptures posted on the various SH4 (and SH3) Forums.
.....Rather, I only made my observation about the relatively poor quality of the graphics as seen in capthelm's screencapture after I noticed that he had a relatively high-end graphics card....I do believe that he should be getting much better visuals than shown, if his card settings were correct/tweaked.

If others with lesser cards are satisfied with (or have no choice but to accept) their jagged-edged rivets, that's perfectly fine with me.

Default Sub Nets

This patrol was my third in a Narwahl Class sub ,the USS Nautilus. Left Midway on 25 aug. 1942 heading for the Makin Is. in the Gilberts with a Land Raider Batt. Four days later I landed them and proceeded to stay around as instructed. Sent to the lower Gilbert Is. and after 3 days, finally had a contact. Small split Freighter. Sunk it with 1 torp. Proceeded as instruction to the Marshall Is. As I approched Kwajalein , radar pick up 3 blips. Proceeded to head to their direction. As I approched the area. I observer that the shallows were protected with a sub net.
The depth next to the net was 200+ ft. Submerged to 160 ft. and proceeded to go under the net. As the depth came up rather fast I surfaced. It was day light as I approched the three ships. All were med split freighters. First ship split in half with 1 torp. Second ship needed 2 torps to sink. The third took 2 torps and then the deck gun to sink. I then proceeded to leave the shallows and as I approched the net, which at first sight looked like a reef, the depth was only 45 ft. below. I then fired a torp at the net. Heard it explode, however, it did not make a hole. I then proceeded along the net toward the point that I had entered untill I found deep water. Then as before I submerged and went under the net. As I came up to perescope depth, sound had a contact. It was a patrol boat. I waited until I could see it in the scope and watched to see how it was going to get through the net. Sure enough, he tried to ram the net and got hung up, unable to move. As I was only 1500 yrds. I fired a torp an blew him up. Sure was fun. Got new message to go back to the Gilberts. As I still had 7 torps and plenty of fuel left. My total tonnage at this point was 5 cargo ships and 1 war ship sunk for 18,797 tons. 2 more days in the Gilberts and had a contact coming directly at me. It was a Med. Split which took 2 more torps and down she went. I had been on patrol for 27 days at this point and recieved a message that read, RTB @ my discretion. I still had 5 torps left, 1 forward and 4 aft and plenty of fuel, However, after 30 + days the crew was tired so I headed for Midway and ended the patrol. Total tonnage for this partol was 23,000+. One more thought, the class of boat during all that time only used half of the fuel. On the surface I rairlly went faster that 10 kts. unless I was chasing a ship.

In closing, this was the most fun I have had since installing SH4. Thanks to all the modders that created the mods for this simm.

Well this ones with a BFG GF 7800 GS OC 256mb with AGP and floats as good as the 8800 card although some of the rivets are getting a bit rusty, gotta get'em checked.

My latest Victim. A nice sized Freighter, just as the moon was about to set.

On my 4th patrol out of Feemantle, Perth, Australia. April, 1942 with USS Perch (SS-176). Long uneventful trip from there to Bali. From there things got exciting. One enemy plane spotted. Dodged him. Sailed into the Makassar Strait. Nice juicy Large Modern Composite Freighter all by his lonesome sailing parallel and opposite me at 11000 yards. Turned and 4 torps away at 7000 yards at 30 degrees AOB! 3 hits 1 dud. Bye Bye ToJo! Another LCMF between Makassar Strait and Celebes Sea. 4 torps all hits. Ta ta Tojo! Singing that cherry tune from Das Boot (can't remember the name). Weather turned nasty. Saw a Small Old Tanker. Deck Gun crew refuse to get wet. Sent 4 torps all missed. Left him alone. Same with a Small Freighter. Sent 2 torps. Missed again! Damn it! Still bad weather so no Deck gun to use. Aha! Clear weather and a Small Old Tanker. This time Deck Gun time! Went to work and took an hour to sink him. Poor sod tried to ram me. I zoomed in and saw one deck hand holding his head in his hand in pure terror before the ship blew up nuke style. But not before he flipped me the old El Birdo. Satisfied with this patrol. Mama would be proud.
