Consolidated TBY Sea Wolf ?

This WWII aircraft was subject to substantial delays and never saw combat.

Not that one. The aircraft in question saw combat but not in WW2, however, earlier variants did fight in WW2.

Grumman F7F Tigercat? Twin engine Navy night fighter used in Korea would certainly be "like in that spirit"

No, the Tigercat did not see combat in WW2. An earlier variant of the aircraft in question did but the version I'm looking for didn't. Based on what has been determined so far the answer can be found on a wikipedia page.

I did reference Wiki. The Bearcat? I've sat in one at the Reno airshow races!...in the '80's.

Almost, but that was an R2800-30W single stage variable supercharger and the Bearcat never saw combat in WW2. The Bearcat was designed for fast climbing low altitude carrier combat. It even out climbed the navy jets which needed more time to reach optimum climb speed while the Bearcat just started climbing.

I stated the aircraft variant that engine was in didn't see combat in WW2 but earlier variants did.
