The Attorney General position was created in 1789 and his primary duties were to represent the U.S before the Supreme Court (which was created by the same Act). The DOJ was not created until After the Civil War, and was primarily set to deal with the problems of Reconstruction in the Southern U.S.

I recall that many years ago I publicly reasoned about that AvalonLady's longer absence back then means that she had something on her mind, some thinking about something, and I said, equivalent to a German phrase (über einer Idee brüten") "She is breeding an idea".
