@ Aktungbby. Thanks.

I was a little disappointed that Eichhörnchen got it so quickly. I had a great clue to use. Photo was taken while ship was in drydock.

You've got to be quick to beat the squirrel. It was the odd angle that set me thinking... so many photos of this ship in 'dry dock'

@ Catfish: correct, but precisely what kind and on what plane?

The first part of your answer is correct, Catfish, in that they form part of a jamming/confounding system, but what system and on which aircraft (not a Douglas Digby). There are three of these aerials carried on the plane

Is it even british?
Lancaster 'cigar' mounts 'ABC' (airborne cigar)?

To jam german radar, some bombers were fitted with jamming devices, scattered over the bomber swarm. If one was hit, the rest was able to still effectively jam german radar. When the germans learned how to overcome this, there was 'corona' filling the frequencies with all kinds of voices and noises to disturb german ground radar from guiding the german night fighters. The latter also had active radar, but for closer action.

When british bombers received an active tail radar system to alarm the crew from incoming german night fighters, the latter switched off their radar and used this signal with their detection systems to find the bombers. It was a cat and mouse 'game'; later Mosquitoes equipped with night fighting instruments began to actively hunt the german night fighters.

But only 2 antennas here on the back of the fuselage, and one below the chin
"Blade aerial on the chin is for the 50-Watt transmissions, and the twin masts on the top of the fuselage for the 40-Watt transmitters."

B.t.w. found this very interesting, and the bomber crews did not even know what was waiting for them..

Catfish you've got the system correct ('ABC') but not the aircraft in my photo (neither is it a Lanc or a C-47)... keep guessing, mate
