oh oh 3 confirmed case on Prince Edward Island. Probably a good time to set charges, blow the bridge and start hunting down those zombies.

Chinese doctor Hui He-Gehr is a practicing doctor in child and adolescent psychiatry in a German hospital. Because of her origins, she dealt with the corona virus very early - and is amazed by Germany.

You work as a Chinese doctor in Germany and have been following the Chinese-language specialist media since the Covid 19 outbreak in Wuhan at the beginning of the year. Are you surprised by the current pandemic in Europe?

Yes, I would not have thought that local politics would have made this global pandemic possible in the first place due to a lack of preparation. None of this would have happened with real, early protection and quarantine measures.

Can you tell us something about the clinical pictures of Covid-19 that have been researched in China? How dangerous is the corona virus really?

The virus mainly nests in the lower airways, which is why the lungs are affected relatively early. It also attacks other organs such as the vessels, the gastrointestinal tract or the testicles. The latter can lead to infertility. So far there have been insufficient study results on the possible secondary diseases or permanent organ damage. Data from China has shown that compared to Sars 17 years ago, Covid-19 is less mortal. However, it spreads faster and more concealed because of a relatively long incubation period of around 14 days, during which you can already infect others without showing your own symptoms. It should also be noted that mild symptoms could worsen quickly, and Covid-19 mortality in the intensive care unit, according to studies from Wuhan, is up to 67 percent.

Is there any knowledge in China to what extent infected people become immune to Covid-19 - as long as there is no vaccine yet?

The data to date do not show any reliable effective immunity. One study from the Guangdong province shows a relapse rate of 14 percent, another from Wuhan even 60 percent in patients who were initially discharged as “cured” after a long hospital stay and double PCR testing and CT control.

The rapid tests for Covid-19 have proven to be an extremely unreliable diagnostic option in China. Is there a better way to diagnose?

The tests are indeed unreliable because the standard test (RT-PCR) shows a sensitivity of only 30 to 50 percent. In other words, 50 to 70 percent of infected patients remain undetected by the test. A combination of multiple tests and the use of CT images, which usually confirm lung damage earlier than the tests, appears best.

What protective measures would have to be taken to stop the pandemic while avoiding an economic crisis?

In addition to the usual hygienic measures such as washing hands and disinfection, the mouthguard is an effective and efficient method. The virus is mainly transmitted via droplets. A mouthguard does not provide sufficient protection against infection, but it does prevent people from being infected. Accordingly, you automatically protect each other as long as everyone is wearing a face mask in social contact. It doesn't have to be a mask. A scarf or piece of fabric is also sufficient to cover the mouth and nose area when speaking, sneezing and coughing. This also reduces the risk of the virus spreading lubricant because you rarely touch your nose and mouth. Accordingly, fewer viruses get onto different surfaces. The viruses are said to survive on metal for up to three days. By the way, these protective measures also apply to your own four walls if someone there is already infected or could be infected.

According to the latest figures from Italy, hospitals are apparently used to spread rather than contain the virus ...?

Unfortunately yes. Medical workers must be adequately protected with face mask and gloves. In the case of direct patient contact, a protective mask of category FFP2, ideally even protective clothing, is required. In China, transmission via the conjunctiva has been identified, which is why eye protection is imperative. The protective measures mentioned, for example, had not been introduced in Germany until recently or still are not. There are already doctors in Germany who have been infected at work. That shouldn't have happened.

Wasn't there a contact block in China similar to ours now?

The current ban on contacts intends to reduce the speed of new infections. In order to avoid new infections, one would have to introduce these protective measures and stop public life for at least one incubation period - i.e. 14 days. With our inconsistency, we only waste time unnecessarily to be able to return to normal life. What sense does it make if the children of "systemically important" parents can continue to go into childcare without protective measures? This increases the likelihood that children, educators and parents will mutually infect each other in a kind of vicious circle, especially if those parents are exposed to a high level of infection, for example as a doctor or police officer. In China, all childcare offers were consistently discontinued.

Is there any hope of ending the virus crisis this year? What happens in winter if there is no vaccination protection by then?

If effective immunity is still not possible, there will probably be another wave in winter. So there is no way around a change in social behavior.

Are there any healing methods?

So far, there is no uniform treatment regimen in China, but only guidelines that propose different procedures. A few drugs from the environment HIV, Ebola, malaria, hepatitis and flu have shown positive effects. The treatment was combined with TCM methods, which is correspondingly difficult to transfer to Europe. Infected people with severe symptoms need to be treated in the intensive care unit. In bad cases, they have to be kept alive by ECMO - an external artificial heart-lung system.

^ "no reliable effective immunity".

I shuddered when reading that. If that gets confimed by further data, we are even deeper in the mess.

I was thinking the same thing Sky, but this was the first time I found anyone agreeing ... there will probably be a 2nd wave. Covid-19 is still not understood with two strains.
The fear, and that's what it really is, will be back by Christmas of 2020 with everyone giving hand sanitizer and TP for presents,
even if the virus has already peaked I predict the worse Christmas (Holiday to some) season our country has ever experienced since WWII.

And the conspiracy keeps on coming.

Before I turned my computer off I saw a few of my FB-friends had posted a bulletin with a link to someone who claimed the new 5G net is responsible for this Corona outbreak

McDonald's will close all 1,270 of its restaurants in the UK by the end of Monday, as fears over the spread of coronavirus escalate.

Nando's has also said it has closed its approximately 400 restaurants in the UK "until further notice".

Costa Coffee, sushi chain Itsu and sandwich bar Subway also planned to close their UK branches on Monday.

If it was positive then I'm sure you would've said something by now.

So how about tested period? Anyone?

Well, here's something new. I went out 7 days ago to pick up some fruit and veggies at the local market. Two days ago I recall I had a sudden onset that kind of nasal congestion which makes ya wanna hock a loogie but I couldn't. Though congestion went away shortly after I tried too clear it. That night I awoke throwing the covers off thinking damn is hot in here, but it didn't occur to me then it may have a been a fever. Today upper chest is kinda heavy but lungs feel clear with somewhat of a dry cough. Could it be?

The way I feel now I have no intention to go to the doctor. Just gonna stay home and take it easy.

Get tested! That's how mine got started 6 weeks ago and I'm just now coming out of it ...

Don't know if I had it no way to get tested yet, but remember Rand Paul had no symptoms and he had it.

Better safe than sorry

So Boris says "social distancing", is of the utmost importance! So what does Khan do? Cut train & bus services, close stations. Now we see people rammed onto trains within one or two feet of each other.

I can already see the answer, "Work from home!". Well Mr. Kahn lets see you drag a three ton print press into your lounge. Or perhaps a 75 feet tower crane !!!

There's a ferry and two airports as well. All entry points are now being screened and all arrivals are being asked to self isolate for two weeks. The three cases are quarantined at home and are not to my knowledge very sick.

How these three residents got infected shows just how far reaching this virus has become. The three were all travelling abroad and returned from the Caribbean, the UK and Spain. All effort is being made to contact the other passengers on those flights if they are Canadian.

Today is the wife's last day at the office. They will be working from home and no customers have been allowed in their office for over a week. Almost everything is shut down here except grocery and drug stores.

PEI is heavily dependent on the summer tourist trade so people are going to be getting anxious. Here in Charlottetown the cruise ship season is a big economic factor. Some weeks there are three or four big ones in for the day. That's been cancelled until this blows over.

Boris is to make todays public announcement at 8:30pm GMT

No doubt social distancing measures will be toughened but maybe a total lock down even.
