Subsim (with help from donations) put up the money to make them work better. You needed to download Projeckt Messerwetzer, which fixed all that.

The biggest flaw in SH2 was the so-called campaign, which was just a series of unrepeatable single missions. There was nothing dynamic, or even random, about it.

Destroyer Command was the same, but destroyers aren't sent out to patrol vast areas of ocean and sink merchant shipping, so DC felt more real in that respect. The only really positive thing I can say about either one is that the multiplayer was great.
