Surfaced subs are nearly invincible

Running Lwami 3.07, and the updated RSR missions.

I noticed this when attempting to play the non-campaign version of the "Red Storm Rising" mission, "Opening Moves".

Bug # 1: All of the Red Force submarines started out surfaced, some only a few thousand yards from the Blue carrier group.

Bug # 2: The blue escorts within visual range of the sub salvoed many anithsip missiles against the surfaced subs. None of them hit; they all flew by as if it were invisible to their seekers.

Bug # 3: Blue escorts then salvoed torpedoes against the surfaced subs; all of the torps ran under the subs w/o detonating.

Bug # 4: I didn't observe any escort gunfire against the surfaced subs.

Bug # 5: My torps all missed, just like the AI fired torps; I made sure to set ceiling to 10, and floor to 200. I set depth to 10 (small as I could get it).

Bug # 6: My Penguin anti-ship missile missed the same way the AI escorts missiles missed too.

Bug # 7: I used the mission editor to edit the subs starting depths; one of them was supposed to be surface, the others were at depths of 75, 100, and 200 feet, but even after editing them all to be 300 feet at start, the next play of the mission they all started surfaced or surfaced very shortly after starting.

Now, admittedly, it was late, and I didn't have time to try very many things, but this mission was basically unplayable.

did you have truth on or not?

If the targets were over the link the info might not always be accurate. You could have sun shown surfaced in the 3d world but it is actually submerged.

No, I did not have truth on.

However, I did visually verify a couple of the subs were on the surface, and none of my shots, or the AI escorts shots, could hit the surfaced subs.

I also used radar to verify that there was indeed something at the spot where the Red sub icon was, and visually verified the sub.

Also, as I said, one of the subs was so close to the AI escorts, that they began salvoing missiles the instant the scenario began. I'm pretty sure the AI must have had a visual contact, and probably a radar contact on that sub.

There must be something wrong on your end... I just ran the scenario (again, to be sure). One sub starts at 250 ft and the other at 500 ft. They stay at that depth for at least the first hour, by which time they will be shooting at you if you haven't engaged them by then.

Default Question about game world uncertainty boxes/spheres

I think I need to rerun this with Show Truth on. I will also make sure I have the corrected 1.04/LWAMI 3.07 version of RSR.

When you are looking at the game world thru the windows of the helicopter/P-3/Frigate, or external camera, the game unfortunately shows the uncertainty boxes. Is there a way to turn that off?

It makes getting a visual confirmation difficult, because the uncertainty box and presumed platform overlay the real game world visual, and it makes it hard to see what you would see if you were really there in the game world.

The only real world visual is when you look out the window. No "boxes" appear when you look out the window. If truth is off, everything on the 3D map is simply a representation of a contact.

Just tested it with a Penguin vs a surfaced T-boat. I watched the missile all the way in for the kill. 1.04+ Lw/ami 3.07.

Ok guys, I was wrong.

When I turned truth on, the subs were at the correct depths.

I still need to verify what the game shows you "out the window of a platform" (NOT the 3d window). I was getting confused by the uncertainty boxes in the 3d window.

That's what I get for playing at 4AM.
