They won't appear if you are using forward tubes and the target is behind you. Same for rear tubes and target ahead of you.

Other than that, are you using any mods?

And just to be sure, did you turn the Position Keeper on?

using the correct tubes in all atks.

no mods.

and yes position keeper is on

all I get is the white X marking the position.

still quite new with manual TDC

in the torpedo trainer its all good but in career doesn't show up, i think ive selected the torpedo's before i turned on position keeper? if that has anything to do it with it.

I don't think that should matter.

(I apologize, it's been a very long time since I've run a stock game, so I'm not exactly sure how it behaves; I'm running on some assumptions and guesses.)

You say it works in the training, but not career.

What difficulty settings do you have turned on? Specifically, the "No Map Contacts" one.

For the training mission, did you set that on the main menu, or after you selected the training mission?
For career, did you set it after beginning the career? In the office, before starting a patrol, there's a radio on the left-hand side shelves. You need to set the career difficulty setting there, otherwise the ones you set on the main menu will not work. (It's a silly thing, I'm not sure why the main menu has the settings in the first place, since they get overwritten afterwards in all cases...)
