It’s well known the U.S. tests more people in a day than most countries can in a week. Everyday here in Florida people spend hours waiting in line at drive through test sites because they feel a little under the weather and run to get tested. It’s turned into a big business now. There is also a BIG difference between patients in hospital ‘with’ COVID and patients in hospital ‘because’ of COVID.

I watch the news here every morning and it’s the same thing. People lining up to get tested because they feel a little under the weather. In fact officials are working overtime to make these tests available, like I said it’s turned into big business. Also, statistically Florida ranks third, behind Texas and California.

Its not a national competition. No medals to win, sorry. That would need to standardize case numbers against population size. The US has four times as many people than Germany, even more in case of the UK or France, as just a few examples. No wonder then that its graphs are so much higher.

Its about that and where the graphs are climbing.

Also, practically everywhere unvaccinated still are overrepresenmted in ICUs. Often they are 80, 90 and more percent of the patient sin ICUs.

Vaccinations work. They keep vaccinated out of ICU and keep them from dying.


Statistics, btw, are not for cherry pickers: valid if they suit your case, and invalid if they don't.

In Florida news there have been no detectable levels of the Delta variant in waste water. There were never any mandates either. But if you still want too wear a mask and inject yourself with boosters til the cows come home. go for it.

It is “cautiously good news” that Covid cases seem to be falling across England, an infection modeller says.

The UK recorded 70,924 daily Covid cases on Sunday - the lowest figure since 14 December.

Education Secretary Nadhim Zahawi says England is now in a "better place" for restrictions to be eased.

Meanwhile, the PM continues to face pressure over lockdown parties held in Downing Street.

People with Covid in England can now stop self-isolating on day 6 if they test negative on days five and six.

Plans to sell tickets to the public for the Winter Olympics in China have been scrapped.

For the first time ever in Germany, the vaccination status of patients in ICUs has been exactly counted across all German hospitals. That counting results showed that of all ICU patients across all of Germany, 62% were unvaccinated, 32% had two vaccinations, and 6% had three vaccinations.

This compares to the current vaccination status amongst the german population: 24.9% are completely unvaccinated, 28% had two vaccinations, and 47.1% had three vaccinations. There are two small fraction groups where there is no recommended vaccine available, or who had gotten just one vaccination dose so far.

The data shows absolutely crystal clear that the vaccination work, and very well so. It keeps people out of ICUs.

Triple-vaccinated people currently form 47% of the German population, but represent just 6% of patients in ICU: they are underrepresented by a factor of 8. Completely unvaccinated are 25% of the population, but they fill 62% of the beds in ICUs, that is an overrepresentation of factor 2.5

This is no projected or estimated data, but counted totals.

A differentiation between Delta and Omikron did not take place. But Omikron is dominant now in Germany, with reports from some days ago saying the health ministry set the rate of Omikron at 71% of all known Covid cases in Germany at some point during last week. This corresponds with that amongst patients in ICU, one in three is just double-vaccinated, while Omikron defeats two job easier than three.

The World Health Organization has struck a note of caution following suggestions the government could ease restrictions in England on 26 January.

Dr David Nabarro, the WHO's special envoy on Covid-19, says the situation in the UK "gives us grounds for hope" as Covid cases appear to be falling.

But he warns against "premature promising that restrictions will end at a particular time"

Dominic Cummings, his former aide, claims the PM "waved aside" concerns about the event and lied to MPs over lockdown parties.

Deputy PM Dominic Raab has denied this, saying Cummings' claim the PM lied is "nonsense"
