How so? Maybe Catfish could expla... wait he's a German too, so he doesn't have a sense of humor either.

The flexibility of the English language allows you to imagine that "the English" would be an inherently witty nation, when in fact you just have a vocabulary and a grammar that allows for endlessly amusing confusions of meanings and misunderstandings.

"There is no need for you to be so proud of yourself, it is not as if you personally invented the English language. You merely inherited it by the geographical accident of your birth."

The US has even much less humour. This is nothing to laugh about.

Me? Never! Nein. Germans are much too honest to be polite, and we do not have time for the latter. You know, all this work..

Don't get too worked up; though The NY Post has ties to the founding of the US, in more recent times it has been only a slight degree above the level of scandal sheets like The National Enquirer; The Post is part of the Rupert Murdoch stable of sensationalist pop-culture media and is highly prone to publishing stories mainly for shock value more than as straight news reporting; s with almost all modern 'journalism', if you really want to know how real or true a story is, it is best to gather data from several sources, even ones you might not agree with, in order to separate the fact from the hyperbole and spin; The Post is one of the publications I sometimes use as a bellwether of changing political moods: if The Post publishes an article strongly critical of the current White House, then there is a good likelihood it has strayed across the tolerances of the GOP and/or the Right Wing; on matters such as the article you linked, it appears too be just another case of The Post looking for cheap attention and trying to stir up the mud...

Germany says its outbreak is under control, with each carrier of the virus infecting less than one other person on average.

The UK death toll reaches 14,576 as 847 new deaths are reported in hospitals.

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe says the World Health Organization (WHO) has issues that need to be inspected when the pandemic is over.

Former UK Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt has said it is "not the moment for pointing fingers" in relation to a prediction that the UK's death toll could end up being the worst in Europe.

The government has announced it is arranging an extra 17 charter flights to bring a further 4,000 British nationals back home from India.

Quote:
Captain Tom Moore: How the war veteran captured our hearts.

There was an unmistakable sense of conviction in Tom Moore's voice as he addressed the camera after completing his walk.

"To all those people who are finding it difficult at the moment," he said, addressing a British public who have seen life turned upside down by coronavirus. "The sun will shine on you again, and the clouds will go away."

Moments before, the 99-year-old war veteran had completed the 100th lap of a sponsored walk around his Bedfordshire garden. With service medals pinned to his breast pocket, and clutching his walking frame, he crossed the finish line at a slow but determined pace.

In just a few days, Mr Moore, nicknamed Captain Tom by his growing legion of fans, had risen from nowhere to the status of near national treasure.

When he had started fundraising for the walk, it had been with the modest aim of raising £1,000. Inspired by the dedicated work of medics, Captain Tom had wanted to thank the "magnificent" NHS staff who had helped him with cancer treatment and a broken hip. By the time he had reached the finish line, he had become a social media phenomenon and raised an astonishing £12m. By the teatime the same day, donations had risen to £15m. And the total keeps growing and growing and has now passed £17m.

What an inspiration he is to us all.

~SALUTE~

There is even controversy about last nights London Bridge appreciation clapping and social distancing.

Quote:
Viral footage appears to show people disregarding social distancing guidelines while taking part in last night’s ‘clap for carers’. In a video watched more than 3 million times on Twitter, members of the public and emergency services stand side by side showing their appreciation for Britain’s key workers – while ignoring advice to remain two metres apart.
