I thought it was as I was searching Hindu temples.

Was this temple recently damaged, or destroyed?

Not as far as I am aware. I believe it is still open to visitors but only on pre-determined days and times to allow worshippers to conduct prayers and attend festivals.

The first time I went was such an occasion so a colleague and myself decided to visit the next day and it was well worth the time and effort.

Clue: Back in the day when when I was a merchant navy engineering officer was the time of the visit so the temple is obviously not too far from water, the sea or a river.

A bit strange because usually an elephant in a Hindu connection is shown as the god Ganesha, but here it seems a Mahout sits on a riding/working elephant
