Counter Detection range? Track and Trail with a Hotel
Howdy, I got back into Sub command to do some cold war missions and am currently attempting to track a Hotel II out of Polyarny in a Sturgeon.
My first attempt I couldnt find the hotel. On my second attempt, after reading up on sonar conditions, I used smarter depth maneuvering and was able to pick up the hotel on reletively short order. I closed, got within about 2800 yards witha superb solution and at 1 knt trying to get in the baffles, when I got a torp launched at me on the hotel's bearing. Im curious, especially in a Sturgeon, if anyone has any idea of counter detection ranges and maybe some advice on what is a good trailing distance. Im going to go again, this time, staying outside 3000 yards and see if I can make things okay. If anyone has wiser words or numbers Id appreciate it. |

I do do alot of track and trail missions but from the other side i normally hang off the back end to one side sometimes close about 600 yards sometimes far 5 to 10 miles, trailing a xia is not difficault i can and have heard her 15 to 20nm away she is that loud.
i have this document about covert ops it covers track and trail as well. http://www.commanders-academy.com/fi...nuals/Kap2.pdf It might help.
