I suspect the starter coil or generator or whatever it is called in english, the small electric motor that starts the engine. It's been giving me headaches since I bought the bucket

Yep, but again, I don't regret it. It's sturdy, cheap to maintain and can get me to the seaside and back (170km one way) for only €25

Costs me about the same and it's only a few miles

But I've not bought a battery for years

Have you had the alternator checked? Many years ago I had a van that went through three batteries before someone suggested that. Turns out the batteries were fine. They just weren't being charged properly.

'twas my thought as well. If the car's as old as it is, and still running the original alternator, I'd lay money on that being the problem.

I had to replace the battery a month ago, short circuit ... is the most plausible explanation ... then it's so much electricity, so yesterday's car was easier to deal with, but yesterday's service was good, nothing wrong at all,
