Help with Silent Hunter on XP Laptop
Hope someone can help.
I've insalled Silent Hunter (SSI) on my XP sp3 Dell laptop Using both the DOSBox method: http://www.subsowespac.org/the-patro...a-dosbox.shtml and: http://www.subsowespac.org/sh_xp/silent_hunterxp.shtml Both methods run - but I have encounterd a problem using both. I was fine until I got to my 3rd Patrol under Career Menu and Continue A Career and Start my 3rd Patrol which assigns me to the Northern Japan. I click Begin Patrol and the animation plays and the Loading begins but when it gets to Loading Patrol Data it just sticks there (under DOSBox) with the mouse still active and I can only Alt Enter back to XP and close the DOSBox session or in the other install method (silent_hunterxp above link) it simply terminates at the same point. It looks like it's related to a TIP on http://www.subsim.com/tips/tip_sh1.php ------------------------------------------------------------------ If you are playing Silent Hunter on a Win 98 machine with 64 Meg of Ram and you may find a problem with any mission North or South of Japan. These missions cause the game to crash. Try this, go to your Sh Exe and right click on it, then left click on properties, then go to the tab marked Screen. There is a drop down box called Inital size. If it is set to default, reset it to either 25, 43, or 50 lines and hit Apply then Ok. Since I've done this Silent Hunter has played smooth as silk. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Only I'm running XP sp3 and the Initial size dropdown is greyed out. Any ideas how to solve this would be appreciated. |

This might be a better solution for these regions:
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/down...do=file&id=502 Though I'm not sure if this is about the same problem. The tip Initial Windows size is for dos screen text screen resolutions. I don't see how this helps loading a specific region in Silent Hunter which is shown in a graphic resolution anyway. |

Me either actually - and I found advanced setting in DOSBox D-Fend Reloaded interface that let you change it to 28 or 50 lines (it said some games needed it) but it didn't help anyway.
UPDATE: Your are a lifesaver The Map patches fixed the problem. I had done a google search for things related to crashes around Japan and didn't see anything about that. I had read or heard something about the crashes but had no luck. THANKS SO MUCH Pisces Paul Last edited by ogrepb; 08-09-13 at 12:39 AM. |
