The reality: Movies like Destination Tokyo aside, they never sent anyone to attempt to penetrate a major naval base, especially Tokyo. Chances of getting in were nil, of getting out even less. I assume you're playing the stock game? TMO and RFB both, as far as I know, fix assignments so they are more historical.

Default Eschem Schnuz's Letters, Monsun Group

Dear Onkel Karl,

How are you? I am fine.

Finally, a nice, quiet patrol to report for a change. Also, many thanks for the promotion.

However, I fear that regardless of how many ships we send to the bottom over here, it would not make any difference and the outcome is inevitable. The Americans are literally "hopping" their way to Tokyo, and from what I can tell, our Japanese hosts are embracing some sort of "death-wish". I sincerely hope something got lost in translation, but doom and gloom pervades all around, and it's hard to rise above all that. Hopefully, the new year will usher in better tidings.

Wishing you a happy and prosperous 1945,

Respectfully yours,
Eschem

First time I got one in Japanese home waters! Usually I find them down around Borneo and the Celebes.

What sort of boat is that? That conning tower looks really odd.

It's a pseudo Japanese sub, I think made from a Type IX Uboat.

I've got another post to make after this one, but FIRST I wanted to thank everyone for sharing their stories, patrols, beautiful pictures, and more, all with your very own style. I've seriously spent more than a few hours lost in a great submarine warfare novel, written ENTIRELY in this thread! Just goes to show what incredible experiences this game can create

Also! Mr. Eschemshnuz! THank you very much for your regular posts and updates, not sure if anyone had responded to those directly, but THANK you! They're fantastic and I love hearing from "zee German" side as well

NOW! A quick introduction! I've been a bit more active lately after realizing that yes, I'll always come back to the Silent Hunter games. I have QUITE a bit of unfinished business with SH4! (I haven't even played all the boats in SH3! Or finished a campaign all the way to 1945!!) ANYwho, I never got any other boats in SH4 after the Porpoise or the Salmon, if that tells you anything. I guess I just took too long on patrols and got bored, or got unlucky with refits, or got distracted in real life. So you can IMAGINE my ah, UNCONTROLLABLE joy as I am finally awarded a Gar class boat in my current campaign. There's foaming at the mouth folks...

And what happens is probably THE most fun I've ever had in this game. I'm using TMO 2.5 with a small Convoy Route map mod, and um...YEP, I've just consulted the judges, and it's definitely the most incredible patrol I've had in SH4. RIGHT up there with my favorite times in the Atlantic. Wow. Felt like I was there...

The patrol started off quiet, but with ONE key difference! Instead of being ordered to go to the East China Sea in a friggin Porpoise, I am NOW sent to the Caroline Islands with my Gar, the USS Grenadier! It's a whole new hunting ground, and a whole new tale to go with it. I've gotta run, but I'll try to make a worthy post later, complete with a few pics. STAY TUNED!

There's a couple of photo missions i haven't fixed in TMO. I should have fixed them last go around, but it slipped my mind.

Not a problem. At least you tried, and while I haven't played TMO much, I'm betting it's far better than the stock missions.

Just some SS of a German U-Boat I downed in the Formosa Strait. I got a message that one would be transiting the strait on a specific date. Never actually thought I run into it. Unfortunately, it was too dark to get really good SS:

Thank you for the kind words, Renegade. Always glad to entertain the troops.

It started out with me trying to do smart-aleck one-liners, but then it evolved into this imaginary tongue-in-cheek correspondence. Plus, it gives me a chance to brush up on my "letter-writing" skills - trolling comments on YouTube does not help one little bit!

Carry on, Herr Kaleun!

Sorry if it was posted before, I found it when I was patrolling around the Luzon Strait.
