Subsims are the greatest things to ever touch computers

I would agree with that. Subsims.com and SH2 got me interested in submarines. Thank you Subsims.

I've been interested in subs since the 1950s. Silent Service was the first great one, and I still play them. On the other hand flight sims are up there as well.

Flight sims and Sub sims

I just read The Hunt For Red October at the end of August. It was one of the best books I've read. Flight Sims are really good too, but, Sub Sims are unique. There aren't many subsims compared to flight sims. I like them both about the same. One day, I found a copy of Silent Hunter 2 in the basement, got it working, and I loved it. So. I started researching submarines and turns out, subs are fricking awesome. The thing is that I play my computer games on an old Windows 98 and I wish I had a newer computer so I could play Silent Hunter 3-4-5.

Same here Red October. I'm running XP on an old computer and I wish I could play the other SH titles. However I'm having a blast playing SH1 and SH2. BTW have you looked into getting Pacific Aces for SH 2? Sailor Steve is looking into its availability for me. Thanks Steve. I think it will be a blast. Looks very interesting. Kind a like SH1 with better graphics and sounds. BTW thanks to all the Team Members who developed the PA mod. I've read very good reviews on it and the screen shots look awesome. I can't wait to play it!

I really didn't like SH2, mainly because there was no real career, just a string of missions that played the same every time. Hitman's 'Aces' campaign made it a little better, and Pacific Aces was a wonder. Oh, and I posted the link in the 'Classic Subsims' thread.

On the other hand, the adversarial multiplay between SH2 and Destroyer Command was a lot of fun.

Pacific Aces

I would love to get Pacific Aces. But there's three problems. One: my Win 98 can't be hooked to my Internet. Two: my computer that is connected is hogged by the family. Three: the mods that I download to a disc to take to the 98 don't show up on the 98. An extra 4th problem: Pacific Aces costs money doesn't it? Any ideas?

Yikes RO. That's a tough one. The cheapest way for you would be to go the download route which is a mere 5 bucks and higher and it helps Neal maintain this wonderful and unique site. Your computer problem has me stumped though. Maybe someone else will chime in with some ideas. Sorry I couldn't be of any help. If money is tight (understandably so, especially in these trying times) I'd be glad to make a donation for the download version on your behalf if somehow you solve your computer issues so that you can enjoy PA also. Try to contact Neal for some help.

Congratulations on the possibility of you getting a new 'Puter. Hope you get it. Yeah absolutely Red October. We'll wait till X-mas and get with Neal on how to go around doing that.

Great! Let's plan for that then.

Ok. If I get a Vista or Win 7, will my SH2 work on it? Or even Sh3-4? I'm trying to find out what to get. If I could get a list of recomended subsims on Vista/Win7/XP?

From my own experiences I know that SH4 will run on XP and Dangerous Waters will run on both XP and Win7.

Thanks TLAM

Does SH5's DRM require a fast Internet or just a connection.

SH2 was a big letdown. 2 year(?) wait (the ultimation to ubisoft thingy), then the uber AI was what killed it for me.

The DC concept was cool, too bad it had so many issues.

Just a connection. Once you are logged on it doesn't ask again.
