How to do help your Uboat Ally with fruit supply?

Has a radio message that a Uboat crew had some scurvy so I decided to intecept them to help out. However I get as close as I can to them and them can't get them to stop, they just continue at their 18knts.

I have a guy with fruits and veggies in his backpack waiting to have an opportunity to give them but when I zoom in the map both boats dissaper from the map screen. The Uboat is spotted and visible.

Any help would be appreciated.
