Good eye, but I corrected the rhetorical question early-on. Not a sea disaster since the Halifax 2 vessel sea collision precipitated the explosion...so not that imho. A bridge collapse?

Squirrels are so smart.

Photos taken by myself during our Christmas visit. The Fairview Lawn cemetary is a two minute walk from my son's house in Halifax. It is also the resting place for the unclaimed dead victims of the RMS Titanic. Kind of sad two disasters five years apart. You can see the Titanic graves fron this memorial.

Over to you Mr. Squirrel.

I formally protest...the Halifax disaster is clearly a sea collision disaster; (post 14731)no imho about it. This is a Commonwealth conspiracy! This game relies on impeccably correct OP answeres

Management says all decisions are final.

You walked up to the door but you didn't knock.

As for being at sea well the explosion took place in a place called the Narrows, a body of water that joins the Bedford Basin with Halifax harbour. It is about 500 meters across. After the collision the Mont-Blanc's crew abandoned ship and the burning ship beached herself at Pier 6 near the foot of Richmond street. And then she blew up.

Well done Big E, that was a clever guess.

Just a little remark: I just did a google image search "Halifax Explosion Fairview Lawn Cemetery" and the only picture it produced, that actually shows the detail we were looking for is this:

I'd say there is hardly a chance to identify the object from that photo. So even if one knows the correct answer it can not be verified by searching the web. From my point of view there's nothing wrong with using your own photo or a photo that has not been uploaded to the web. But it would be nice to choose a detail that corresponds to a photo that is available to the public. It's a question of sportsmanship imho.

Hmm I took my photo from almost the exact same spot only closer and from a lower angle.

Frankly that never occured to me. I didn't know that was a rule. But then again there are a lot of small grainy B/W photos used that I can't find either.

No hard feelings! There are almost no rules. Let's keep it this way. I have to admit, the more desperate the search the deeper the insights in incidents you would normally never come across:

This one was put up to commemorate the fate of the victims of the Icelandic settlement disaster that took place in the 1870s. The sculpture was made by GUŎRÚN SIGURSTEINSDÓTTIR GIRGIS. Atta girl.
