"My City of Sydney." 2 versions.
Here's 2 versions of the song of where I used to live and spent the happiest years of my life. Beautiful city currently being ruined by a stacked "Progressive" council.
Tommy Leonetti's first. Then, XL Capris version. Do you guys have a song about your city where you live? I'd love to see it.

Very nice point / counter-point eisenwurst!...
Now, just because: I like the empty rocking rocking chair for Roy Orbison, who had just passed away at the time... |

XL Capris "Shark Horror."
Great live band. Saw them at "The Governor's Pleasure" at The Rocks a few times in the "olden days". Big warehouse - lots of history, great acoustics and always packed.

I remember when The Beatles Revolver came out and how it was a major shift in the way popular music was evolving. The whole album was one departure after another from the "Top 40/Mop Top" Beatles tunes up until then. Along with George Harrison's Taxman, it was John Lennon's album ending number, Tomorrow Never Knows, that threw open the doors to what would become Sgt. Pepper; Paul may have come up with the concept, but it was John and George that gave it its sound. The rumors at the time were Paul really hated John's song out of fear it would alienate loyal fans and upset their hit-making gravy train; Paul relented mainly to mollify John, who was showing early signs of wanting to do his own "thing", and keep peace in the group; Paul greatly underestimated the sophistication of the fans and the importance of John's 'experiments'...
What is truly remarkable is how the band was able to create such a song with equipment and technology that was extremely primitive by today's standards. All they had available were massive analog 4-track reel-to-reel tape machines; today's musicians who record have an almost infinite number of tracks available to them on digital software they can carry around on their laptops. Compared to now, The Beatles were making the equivalent of woodblock prints... The influence of Tomorrow Never Knows shows up in the 1999 Chemical Brothers' number, Let Forever Be; the closeness of this homage to The Beatles' own composition was so close, lawyers for the surviving Beatles and Yoko sent letters to the Chemical Brothers alleging illegal sampling of the original number, an allegation later proven false; still, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery... <O>
