Re the missing crew voices, have you read the SH3Cmdr FAQ? There's one FAQ that may be a possible solution for you:

Q: Since using SH3 Commander I can no longer hear speech or most sound effects. What sound files does SH3 Commander overwrite?
A: SH3 Commander does not overwrite any game sound files. This problem will occur if you set the "Character animations", "Sound effects" and/or "Particle rendering" Time Compression events to 1. Reset each event back to the default value and try again (a Rollback is not sufficient to reset these settings). If your problem persists, scrutinise any new mods that you have installed since you last had full sound.

If it's not that, then I can't help you. I mean, provided you have text entries in **_menu.txt between 810 and 817, I wouldn't even know *how* to remove ship spotted messages and certainly haven't made such changes in R2.6 - just look at the R2.6 Release Notes!

Alternatively, perhaps you are running TC too high? It may interfere.

well, I did an additional rollback and start with SH3 Commander and never went over 128 TC, and "shipped spotted" worked as it should. Thanks.

?? A Problem ??

I had somthing interesting happen last night when I was playing SHIII. I am playing in 1940 in the 2nd flottilla and was beginning to wonder when my base will change to Lorent (sic). Well to make a long story short I started ran commander liike normal and clicked the launch SHIII button and I got a pop up I have not got before "Base Changed to Lorent". I thought well this is cool, however when I get to the mission screen I am still starting in Whillhaven (sic) and an returning to Whillhaven. I thought well OK whatever, saved game and restarted back to the same patrol, this time I get null patrol in the SH3 commander screen and the mission orders have changed to start in Whillhaven and return to Lorent with a Null patrol grid, however the clipboard at the side menu (don't know the corrcect term) under misin goals still gives me a destination of DH12 and not a null patrol. I was just wondering what is going on.

Hi all, Noob here.

Got a question about random career length.

It says in the SH3Comm help file that the randomisation occurs every time you launch from SH3Comm except when in mid patrol. Does that mean if I start a career with this option checked and it decides to retire me after say 6 patrols, when I get back to base after 1st patrol I must uncheck this option before launching again or it will AGAIN randomly assign me to retire after say 8 patrols? If this is the case if the box is not unchecked after first launch I would never get retired correctly.

Right?

My brain hurts! I honestly don't understand what you are saying or asking, so I will just explain the feature. Simply, with the option selected, EVERY TIME you press "Launch SH3!" when you are DOCKED (that is, NOT mid-patrol), SH3Cmdr performs a small calculation to determine whether you should be retired. The calculation is based on the number of patrols completed and the number of days spent at sea AT THE TIME OF CALCULATION. If the result of the calculation is true, you are retired. Conversely, if false, SH3 loads and the game continues as usual.

The calculation is ONLY performed AFTER you press the "Launch SH3!" button and ONLY if you are DOCKED. It is performed for that ONE time only and repeated fresh EVERY time you press the "Launch SH3!" button.

The (user adjustable) lookup table that controls this feature can be found in SH3 options.cfg.

I hope this helps.

I originally thought that if checked and launched it would assign a SET number of patrols, or SET number of days at sea and retire you when reached. If left checked and launched again it would REASSIGN a new SET number.

Example: Launch new career and get a max 7 patrol career. Finish patrol and relaunch and get a new value assigned like 10 patrols. etc.

In short, I thought I had to uncheck it on subsequent launches or get assigned a new random career length.

I think I understand now. Leave it checked and it will eventually retire me.

Thanks for the fast response and the great mod.

Oh, I see. No, the feature doesn't work that way. It doesn't "preset" retirement (although I kinda like the "fate" feeling), it determines it exclusively at the beginning of each new patrol. If the random numbers fall your way, your career could go well beyond 16 patrols, otherwise, you may get an average of 8 or so.

I am receiving medals much sooner in my careers than I should. For example, after 5 patrols in a type II in which I sunk 7 ships for a total of 32,367 tons, I was awarded a Knight's Cross! I'm not sure if this is due to NYGM Tonnage War or maybe because I use SH3 Commander with Tonnage War. Any idea how I could correct this, maybe by altering something in the SH3 Commander Cfg file?

Yes, to ensure compatibility with NYGM, I had to "remove" the SH3Cmdr PLAYER_RENOWN settings. SH3Cmdr used the original RUb settings, which provided more realistic* promotions (sooner - yes, sometimes history can work in the player's favour! ) and medals (longer - well, one out of two).

You can get the "traditional" SH3Cmdr settings back by opening "Static settings.cfg" and removing the semicolons from the begining of the 14 PLAYER_RENOWN lines. Note though, that I do not know what impact this will have in NYGM.

* over stock SH3.

Hi to ALL, I'm new with this simulator and I've just installed Commander 2.6. I haven't well understand if I must launch SH3 from Commander every time I play or only when I made some change to SH3.
Thanks
Alex

Yes, launch SH3 *every* time via SH3Cmdr.
