Makes me want to post toons of The Prophet Muhammad (full spelling so they know it's really him I mean, not some random dude with the same name) raping his pre-pubescent wife. Then everyone can know what an awesome POS he was (under the assumption he ever really lived).

Now, we all know the modern people pushed the Neanderthals to the side.

Okay, this was a bit provocative, but it is like that. If you don't keep up, you will be put to the side. If you like being at the side, then don't worry.

But if you want to be part of the modern social life, Facebook is definitely the current mean of communication with current and old friends.
Hilarious. I have been into computer programming since the mid-80s. Now, there have been a number of advances that have caught my eye along the way, but facebook certainly wasn't one of them, other than "why didn't I have the idea of creating that blisteringly simple site?" and I definitely don't have any plans for a facebook account. If I did open any accounts, they would probably be for the bots I would write to see how deep I could data mine but, not interested.

Where's my club? Ugh... UGH!

I just didn't feel comfortable being on FB.

If I knew how to program such social sites, I would make one myself, and it would certainly not be as restrictive and intrusive as Facebook is.
Post some nude or semi-nude photos in a photo album, and your account gets deleted, because some smuck couldn't handle to see it and reports it. Where is the "if you can't handle it, then look the other way"-mentality?
But it's okay to be spammed about this or that game application all the time. Now where is that "hide all applications"-button?

But, I choose to ignore and minimise the crap on Facebook the most, and focus on the good things: like keeping up-to-date with friends abroad or just living far away.

When I first checked the other day it came up for me—I have no facebook account, so I assumed it was open like some bands have pages.

It defaults to the facebook home page right now for me. Can anyone else follow that link if they have no facebook acct?

All commentary I have read on the net says it is all down, too.

Ahh, there's your problem. If you don't have an account, then it ain't accessible.
Anyway, my link was for the secondary page. The most crowded of them is truthfully down. But this one is still up.

Un-F-ing-believable.

Facebook PC cowards vs POS, medieval muslim fundies.

Makes me sick to my stomach. WTF is the world coming to?
Simple reason: Facebook was scared of losing the revenue.
In this world, business and money decide the rules. You can always donate some money to Facebook but I doubt you make that much in one year.

Imagine, if all Muslim countries decide to pull their finance from Western banks, stop oil trade with Western countries and stop dealing with Western firms. (Chinese and Russians are out of this equation) You can say in this forum whatever you want to (which really doesn't matter at all except that you are wasting your time which you can use it for some healthy activity) but your economy and your companies can't afford this at all. 1973 oil crisis, remember?

For the record: I hate FB. I have no account or whatsoever. I really have no right to complain for privacy when I upload some personal stuff to others' websites..

BTW, there was a real URL (not facebook) for draw mohammad day, but POS muslim hackers hacked it.

(yeah, I know, the POS is redundant)

Someone needs to get the real site back up, it's galling that backwards, medieval ****s can stifle freedom of expression when they couldn't build a computer—or anything else—from first principles themselves (even iranian nukes rely on european equipment—my rule is that if your country couldn't build whatever it is with no help at all, then you don't deserve it)

Just for a second, I would like to isolate that statement for the sole purpose of reflection.

Where would the world be today, if no technology whatsoever had ever crossed the borders?
Mathematics and astrology, and hence construction and navigation was a known technology in ancient Egypt. But we all know about this today, at least if we paid attention during school.
Is it bad in general that technology is spread? No, it ain't. Better to help eachother to rise together, thus avoiding jalousy and hatred. Though within reason. No reason to share knowledge about mass destruction weapon technology (like nuclear bombs). In fact, this is one technology, which is one of the worst inventions ever. And of the scientists who did it, many have regretted it, but sadly the circumstances forced them to invent it.

Okay, WTF just happend here. Now, Facebook and mass destruction technology... I wonder if the "Everybody draw Muhammed" phenomenon has the potential of mass destruction of the general moslem idea of Muhammed being perfect, when he wasn't.

Now that's a gestalt. The hardcore followers seem challenged and appalled by the realization that anyone would besmirch the purity of their religious icon.

Yeah, okay. From my point of view it's difficult to imagine that any highly publicized affront to their beliefs could be viewed as destructive. I'm not among those who feel they are being subjected to that treatment. It's pretty much standard fare in Western societies for the old beliefs to be challenged on occasion (if not regularly). What is needed to bridge this gigantic gap in understanding?

IMO that's a bit like asking what's need to bridge the pacific ocean. Even poking fun at something like the figure of Muhammed is to them the equivalent of a terrorist attack on the White House for Americans.

Yes, that is quite an ominous void. The problems won't be resolved for many years to come, but it's not entirely out of the realm of possibility that some hope could be established on either side of the line. We can progress further from there.
