Training AI requires a huge amount of power, one task the same as one hour of a lamp on. This immediately makes the rise of AI a threat to the climate, because of its large carbon footprint. Already, data centres guzzle about three per cent of all electricity worldwide, and one per cent of CO2 emissions come from those same data centres. That is half of what the aviation sector emits. Take Alexa. Before you can ask the voice-controlled domestic helper, ‘Alexa, turn off the light’, a lot of steps have been taken. An hour of video streaming is the same as a week of turning on the fridge. You think you buy a sweet little device that sits in your sitting room, but the hinterland is huge with huge energy consumption. Even the pioneering computer programme ChatGPT, which can have lifelike conversations, uses a huge amount of power: a single training session of ChatGPT means about 500 tonnes of CO2 emissions. That is equivalent to a thousand cars driving a thousand kilometres.

POLL: Historic Optimism in Direction of Country Under Trump

Posted on Wednesday, May 28, 2025
|
by Alan Jamison

Quote:
New polling from Rasmussen Reports shows that 50 percent of Americans now believe the United States is on the right track – a historic high.
Rasmussen pollster Mark Mitchell stated that the results were significant because this was the first time in the company’s “polling history A MAJORITY says the country is on the right track.” Rasmussen first began tracking whether Americans believed the country was on the wrong track or the right track in 2006.
“Never thought I would see it,” Mitchell stated, according to the Washington Examiner. “I don’t think the Republican Party understands the gravity of the gift which Trump has given them. Unprecedented presidency.”
Rasmussen isn’t the only polling agency that shows rising optimism in the direction of the country. The RealClearPolitics average also shows that 44 percent of Americans now believe the country is on the right track – the highest since 2009.
In comparison, only 28 percent of Americans believed America was on the right track at the end of Joe Biden’s presidency, with 62 percent saying the country was on the wrong track.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also commented on the news. “There is good news today. Consumer confidence hits a record high, and also the highly respected pollster Matt Rasmussen showed that a majority of Americans view our country as heading on the right track under President Trump,” Leavitt said. “This is a stark contrast to what that same polling showed under the previous disastrous administration led by Joe Biden.”
On the right track/wrong track question, Trump is significantly ahead of where he was at the same point in time in his first term. On May 29, 2017, 34 percent of Americans believed the U.S. was on the right track compared to 58 percent who believed the country was on the wrong track.
More polling from Rasmussen also showed that Trump had a 52 percent approval rating on Tuesday. This is Trump’s best performance in the Rasmussen poll in two weeks. InsiderAdvantage additionally released polling Monday showing that Trump had a 60 percent approval rating among Hispanics, appearing to further confirm other reports that Hispanics are flocking to the Republican Party in record numbers.
Trump’s overall approval rating is also on the rise, according to RealClearPolitics. His average approval rating is currently 48 percent compared to 45 percent a month ago.
This polling stands in stark contrast to the corporate media’s narrative that Trump is out of step with the American public. Time and again, legacy outlets have painted Trump as a fringe figure, yet the data tell a different story – one of enduring appeal and growing support across key demographics.
As much as pundits may try to wish it away, public opinion is shifting. These numbers are a clear reminder that conventional media narratives often miss the mark and that voters, not headlines, will shape the future of American politics.

... ...

It is possible for people to have optimism for the prospects of an institution while, at the same time, having little to no respect for the leader or leaders of the institution; for example, shareholders may have optimism in the prospects of a company while at the same time having a lack of confidence in the company's CEO; or, in another example, soldiers may have optimism in their army's ability to accomplish their mission and, yet, have little or no confidence in the SevDef and/or Commander-in-Chief; the soldiers are optimistic they will achieve their missions, even if its in spite of the leadership and not necessarily because of or due to the leadership; optimism in the overall ability of a mission does not necessarily always equate to confidence in and/or support of the mission's leadership...

Then there is the issue of who is conducting the poll/survey and their methodology; what, exactly, was the text of the question(s) put to the respondents? Was it phrased to elicit a desired response rather than unbiased response? Who were the respondents and how were they selected? How big of a sample was taken? These are all fair questions...

...as to who is conducting the poll/survey, Rasmussen has a checkered history when it comes to accuracy and possible bias; a quick check of their history shows they are often significantly off in their results, so much so they have been openly criticized by poll raters and have even been dropped from the poll aggregator sites due to Rasmussen's faulty and/or biased poll results; how biased are they? Well, a polling group sometimes referred to as a GOP "gold standard" and known for slanting its questions to try to ensure a result favorable to Trump is fairly good indicator of notable bias; and, let's not forget that Rasmussen openly called for VP Mike Pence to overturn (illegally!) the 2020 Presidential Election results in Trump's favor; Pence had the good sense not to blindly trust Rasmussen's conclusions...

Trump hates the dollar and foreign investements. If his goal is to destroy both, then he does everything right.

Is anyone home on the top floor?

Quote:
US President Donald Trump has floated a new conspiracy theory about his predecessor, Joe Biden. He reposted a claim on Truth Social alleging that Biden was ‘executed in 2020’ and replaced with a robotic clone. This comes a month after Biden disclosed that he has prostate cancer, which has spread to his bones. Notably, Trump has earlier questioned whether Biden personally made major decisions during his term due to his use of an autopen to sign key documents

So if I were to say that the Germans are all Goose Stepping Square Heads you'd think I was seriously describing the actual physical shape of their skulls? You people couldn't recognize ball busting if they were yanked up to your eyebrows so you could see them being squeezed close up.

Trump is not alone in suspecting that Biden didn't actually sign those Autopenned proclamations and pardons. Considering that Biden repeatedly said himself that he would not grant many of them and suddenly a pile of electronically signed pardons appears in the last seconds of this presidency, it's a valid consideration regardless of how much you hate Trump.

Said it many times before-I DO NOT HATE Trump. However coming with such a statement on his social media, is indicating he's not really home on the top floor.
