sort of in dire emergencies! Hint: The tail hook was more often replaced by an elongated tail wheel for improved wings' angle-of-attack for shortfield takeoffs.

For emergency landings at sea the Fi 167 could jettison its landing gear, and airtight compartments in the lower wing would help the aircraft stay afloat at least long enough for the two-man crew to evacuate.

During one such mission, near Sisak on 10 October 1944, an Fi 167 of the Air Force of the Independent State of Croatia was attacked by five North American Mustang Mk IIIs of No. 213 Squadron RAF. The crew of the Fieseler had the distinction of shooting down one of the Mustangs before itself being shot down—possibly one of the last biplane "kills" of the war.[3]

Stuka's didn't have an upper wing! One wonders, given the success of the essentially outdated biplane Swordfish's success against the Bismark, that the Kreigsmarine's intended carrier GrafZeppelin, for which the F1 Feiseler was designed, would have made a real strategic difference...or simply been 'hunted to destruction' like the Bismark by a chubby ex "First Sea Lord". The primary air power concept of the Reich was flawed from the start: the limitations imposed at Versaiiles; and it was primarily intended as a Heer support, for a swift European continental land war and not a strategic long range affair incl. subduing the RAF. England, in terms of Operation Sealion, time over target for ME 109 fighter support to subdue the RAF was simply a "channel too far" w/o "strategic" four-engine airfleets. Hitler said it best: "At sea, I am a coward"...So England reposed fitfully behind her briney moats. Ie: if your infantry support Stuka is doing a 1 bomb flying artillery sorty whilst your Lancastrian opponent is blasting your remaining Tirpitz in a fjord and principle cities with the 'cookie" Tallboy bomb'....you ain't gonna win the war!

@Aktungbby:
You are not wrong, but the allied propaganda always stresses how Hitler wanted to conquer the world. They had already said that of Kaiser William, in WW1
I guess Russia was enough, and the latter would have probably won the war against Germany alone in the long run (see Hitler-Mannerheim recordings).

re the Fieseler, i had not heard much about this Fieseler 167 carrier plane, although the "Storch" was a phantastic plane.
I also had thought of a JU 87 "Stuka" first, but tail and rear open canopy along with the biplane design did not fit..
