True that

There are rumours the Telegraph have the dirt on at least eight other Premiership and former Premiership managers.

I wonder if Rafa is amongst them

3 minutes !? that what the TOON needed to turn a certain defeat to a victory-going from 1-3 to 4-3 and all these goal was scored after fulltime

Makes me wonder, why couldn't they play this way when they were in Premier League ? Or is there a huge gab between Championship and PL, Newcastle is to good for Champ but not enough for PL ?

TOON were magnificent last night and never gave in but must start converting the multiple chances they are creating during the first half....otherwise, the opposition get a foothold which we have witnessed in the previous two games.

Kill em off early then consolidate in the second half.

The Rafalution is well on track.

I had a quick search of the interweb looking for wage bills for the various clubs in the Championship. I'm curious to see it. I would guess that Newcastle have players that had no relegation wage clause so they're on Premier League wages. Like how much is Shelvey on for example, and how does Newcastle's wage bill compare to the other clubs in the league.

It happens that I watch a football match from the German 2nd or 3rd liga on some German TV-Channel

I would like to watch a English football match from the 2nd or 3rd liga.

Thanks Jimbuna. That last link is confusing. Is that 65 million the current wage bill? The article was written this year but lists the figures as being from 14/15.

I would imagine that in order to retain Rafa, Ashley needed to keep the team largely intact instead of having a sell-off. With parachute payments I suppose it's sustainable for this season at least. Wonder what would happen should they fail to gain promotion? Are the stands full for the Championship matches?

Ashley made a profit of £30 million plus even after Rafa brought in 12 players of his own choosong so I should imagine both are happy, especially when taking into consideration Rafa is on £5 million a year (Allardyce as England manager was on 3£ million).

Failure to win promotion will mean Ashley decides whether to invest more or sell I should imagine.

Gareth Southgate, the England interim manager says he took over 'a mess' after Allardyce left following only one game in charge.

I can't disagree with him because England have seldom came up with the goods when it is asked of them.

His final two games in charge are at home to Scotland (the old enemy) in a world cup qualifier then four days later, at home to Spain in a friendly.

The month of November should prove interesting.

I decided to watch the last two England Internationals for a change and I wish I hadn't. In the 1st game it was a re-hash of the same old rubbish from the players and nothing new from Southgate, I gave them 3\10 and switched off just before half time.

In the 2nd game I gave them 5\10, not because they were better than the other team but because that midfield and the defence were doing everything they could to help the other team win.
It's a novel idea Southgate but trying to win a football match from 2 or 3 down is just not the way to win a match.

I don't know how much these England players are on but I would imagine it runs into nearly 2 million pounds a month or thereabouts, and just what do we get for all that financial outlay, the same old rubbish that we got in the World Cup and the same old rubbish from the Euro Championships.

Southgate may well be right that it was a mess after Allardyce left in disgrace, but I challenge him to name an England side that hasn't been running around like headless chickens for the last 20 years or so.

Took the words right out of my mouth. Of course it's a mess. It's England. Don't care to offend, so I won't say much, but I feel England has long overvalued it's football team's worth. That's rather delicately put, no?

Southgate is mitigating the hit on his rep. He's been with England since when? After leaving Boro? It's a cushy job managing the Unders, and if he doesn't get the full gig he's surely trying to protect his day job.

The real question is, if not him, then who?

Anyone's guess really. You might feel it's a bit of a catch-22. Anyone worthy already has a job. And I'd be wary of those who might throw their hats in the ring. The FA seems to need an English chap. If true, who? Pardew? Pulis? Curbishly? Maybe give 'Arry a go? Just effin run about lads.

To me, the Football Association, as they care to be called, are serial bumblers with their heads in the sand up to their ascots. I just don't see them getting this next one right, although to be fair I don't have a clue who it should be either.

I doubt there are many if any managers around these days that could turn England around.....too much of a cultural thing.
