I agree that Twitter is a private company. The only problem is that it monopolizes on the one thing that should never be limited... speech.

Since healthcare is considered a right and heavily regulated...

Maybe companies like Twitter should be regulated as well!

Companies like Twitter should have an agreement, where it limits free-speech in its legal wording. If you’re not going to allow people to be conservative or talk their right wing ideas, than put that in the legal wording.

Otherwise people should be allowed to speak however they wish. Even if they agreed with the Capitol Hill occupation. Just because it offends others doesn’t make it hate speech and it doesn’t make it any less free.

That was one of the points Ted Cruz made up when he was talking to that CEO of Twitter. I believe it was Twitter. Where he even he said certain people are allowed to talk but others weren’t. And that should be listed as a restriction. But Twitter would never do that. They would lose most of their members.

The devil in the details again and where do you draw a line? Should it be okay to say black people and the Irish are subhuman scum fit to be eliminated? Should it be okay to say all white people are racist bigots that need to be stripped of there property and eliminated? Those are blatant lies so obviously some level of content control needs to be used, but when the line gets blurry, it becomes far less obvious and we have the situation we face now.

And the question is who should be the arbitrator of this content control? If private entities like Twitter are alowed to do it what guarantee can they give that they will do it without bias.

I see the danger, I just don't see the censorship. Twitter bans Trump? He'll be on Telegram tomorrow and those who want to follow him will do so. The beautiful (and very ugly) thing about the internet is that only a smartphone and a domain-provider is required to make yourself heard. The idea that a bunch of companies can control the flux of information comes from the last century. Yes, who? In this era of fake news and alternative facts it becomes nearly impossible and someone will always feel slighted.

I was just mulling over who has the most to gain by sowing dissent and it always came back to Russia. Getting the US all tied up and stepping on it's "dillerman" over election fraud, fake news, etc., even to the point of civil war, is in their best interests. Forget China for now, we are a cash cow still.

Well let me give you an example. Again it's the laptop story. Sorry it just won't go away.

Ok the Post breaks the story, Twitter locks their account. It should be a story that at least gets some play on major news sites. It is a big story if accurate. The reporters on most news platforms use Twitter. So now CNN, NTY etc. are not going to touch this story out of fear that their reporters will be locked out of this tool that they use everyday. Again, Twitter is within their rights to do it but it is pretty easy (for me anyway) to see how that is a strong arm tactic on Twitter's part. And it worked.

Let's see what comes of it. I still can't quite imagine China wanting to destroy the west but I can easily see them wanting to wage an economic war.

I've been to China and you have to understand how much saving face influences what happens on lot's of levels. You can't show a superior a better way to do anything, or what the problem is when you know and they don't unless they ask. And they are not likely to ask and show weakness. It just doesn't happen so lot's of stuff gets screwed up needlessly. I can believe Covid got out of hand in that manner as much as it being a plot at least.
