I've gone for the 'minimal' look.

just don't ask me to right click and 'show desktop icons'...

Just got DisplayFusion to extend the taskbar over both monitors with relevant windows staying on the relevant taskbars, well worth the 12 euros for the software.
anyway here is the result.
