Let's get back to work, noe I would like to share with you mi impressions.
At first you are hit by the graphics...it;s beautiful. Be sure to disable though the

glare. You get the feeling that the game is a walk in the park...however, you will soon

discover that a U-Boot is much more maneouvrable than even a Balao. The subs dive like pigs

even in a crash dive situation, but once underwater it's a pleasure. Faster than VIIB..they

turn quickly and perform superbly. The depth gauge meter stops at 160 meters, but in a Sclass I found out that at around 60 meters, the pipes in the control room were bursting. I could not figure out how to use the damage control team....I am still working on that.

You will also find yourself in the strange position to learn again how to drive the sub.

They are bigger, heavier...accelerate slower and have great inertia. I tried to make a Uturn in Pearl Harbot with my brand new Tambor, and hit the pier in the process. The controls are somewhat harder to master than in sh3. There are lot more buttons and functions. What is

nice, is that no matter in what position you are in the sub (conning, control, sonar) you

can acces the functions of the other posts without having to swith to them first.

It took me some time to figure out where the torpedo settings and attack map are. There are

some bugs, but small, mostly graphic. The only thing that I personally thnk would require

some attention, are the sounds. They are...few than in vanilla sh3. Nobody says anything

even when you launch a torpedo..I sometimes look around in the zentrale to see whether

anyone is still around. But...sounds can be fixed very fast. Overall....it's completely

different than SH3 world. You find yourself just watching the sunset and the beautiful

waves. I have encountered fog....and guys. IT'S FOG...REAL FOG.

The smoke travels a bit fast. Ships sink beautifully. Flames from the explosions are

spectacular. The water is flawless. The clouds travel too fast even without wind. No fish.

Lots of american subs. Lots....lots of everything.

:hmm: Tons of trailers, movies, previews, answers from dev team at official site - nothing could force me to leave SH3 and buy SH4 right after its premiere. But after reading your little "review"... well Ubisoft should thank you - i'm gonna buy SH4 (when it will be available where i live).

Damn! I even got excited a bit about Silent Hunter 4...

The klaxon is there.

I died....and it was just a screen, like in sh3 saying that I failed my mission and destroyed my sub. I pressed esc, but I doubt there was any movie after that.

About the visual range....in ideal conditions I saw the ships at around 12000 meters....smoke first.

Good summary, I agree with you on several point. The interface is pretty good once you get used to it and you can switch function faster, I think. Also agree the clouds boild away about 10x too quickly and there need to be a few more key crew sounds: Firing one, firing two; We're taking damage, we're sinking, etc. I think once you get a veteran crew the dive times will improve. US subs could crash dive to PD in less than 45 seconds.

How do you like the TDC? I think it is a game in itself. I especially like how the TDC will remember each ship you ID, so you can set up on several ships before firing....oops, better hold off until tomorrow

Thanks for the tip-off Neal. On the 'what happens when you die' subject, I've seen screenshots of crewman lying seemingly unconcious on the compartment floor, with water spewing out of burst pipes etc. So what was that?

That's worth knowing. Good info. Thanks.
I have everything on maximum, glare included and it runs just like SH3. 1gig of RAM, Geforce7950gt and core2duo 2.13mhz. Silky smooth.

Well, seeing I am so good and full of mad skillz, I never die. But just for giggles I played the sim as if I were Drebbel, and in the several (many, actually) times I was killed, you would get the leaking pipes, fine mist water spray leaks, lights flashing off and on, and some times the crew gets funky and does some serous shaking, like Capt. Kirk and crew on the Enterprise when the Klingons were jacking them up. Some times I would be killed and death was instant. I have not yet seen them stretched out on the floor, but then again, I use deodorant. It would be cool to see some kind of death movie, maybe a white light and a voice like some hottie saying "come to the light...."

Haha, the only explanation is that I discovered a time warp on my travels through the pacific...

This is great indeed. The periscope station offers much...MUCH more than sh3. Once you begin your attack, you input every ship in the tdc. You have all the tools in your hand, the torpedo settings snd so on. Realism fans will enjoy themselves to the maximum.

There is one thing that however bothers me. You have the realism settings like in sh3, but also a master switch which again controls some variables...Easy, Medium...and so on. How does this setting affect the ones that I have already set ? Is it something like the MP system in sh3 regarding this aspect ?
