They don’t need no stinking tariffs.

Yeah but Blazing Saddles spoofed that scene from a move called "Treasure of the Sierra Madre" with Humphrey Bogart.

In talks: not much difference, in deeds: remains to be seen. On war (and thats the only way for Trump to get Greenland or Panama), Putin does not fire just empty verbal duds to get attention. Trump surely will commit a massacre: against officials, media, and lawyers and attorneys at home, not Greenlanders or people in Panama.

Too funny more posturing from an off the cuff comment than three years of war on its EU borders.

The Danish government is taking it very calm.

Maybe because it wouldn't be the first time that Denmark has sold it's lands to the US, not even the second time.

Yes they sold Virgin island to USA and some other small country. But Greenland is different. It is a part of Denmark and Greenland has some kind of autonomous self-government.

There are some steps which has to be taken before Trump can buy Greenland. First of all the Danish government have to say yes to give Greenland their own ruling of their country. Then there has to be a referendum at least in Greenland and perhaps in Denmark too. All this may take years, so USA could be the owner of Greenland after 2030 or so.

I'm not worried. It's all just headline grabbing (shiny thing) crap to obscure the failures of the campaign promises coming up.

Here is the real reason to why USA, Russia and China have interest in Greenland and why Denmark isn't giving up the island so easily.

It's up to the Greenlanders to decide what kinds of affiliations they want to have with other countries. And if the Greenlanders want to leave the kingdom of Denmark and become part of the United States. Denmark would respect that decision, but it's their decision. But once Trump gets into serious discussions with the Greenlanders, it will become obvious that they're not at all talking about the same thing. The Greenlanders want the United States to give them money in exchange for access to Greenlandic territory for defence purposes. But aside from that, they want to be an independent country that can make its own decisions. And such an arrangement is not at all going to give Donald Trump the ownership of Greenland.

^ yes, and there is public international law.

But:
"Trump said that U.S. control was an "absolute necessity" and did not rule out using military or economic action to make it happen."

I don't know. I think it is high time for the peoples of the earth to topple and get rid of ALL all those international queer[sic(k)] bigmouths, rulers and dictators, once and for all.

A stawman argument. Trump is not asking to buy Greenland personally.

Look up the Suez Canal blockage in 2021 that cost billions in delayed shipping; the only real threat is not to the US strategic and military interests, its to the worldwide trade interests; frankly, the Panama Canal could shut down today indefinitely and the US defense situation would not even feel the difference; the really vital naval assets are already in position in their respective Pacific and Atlantic Oceans and don't need the Canal to get around; and the Canal is so old and low tech that it can't even accommodate the newer vital naval systems like carriers and subs; the idea of shuttling a big carrier or nuclear sub very slowly through the Canal, leaving it vulnerable to easy attack by hostiles, is just not in the cards; ICBMs, stealth technology, hell, even drones, make the Canal virtually useless as a modern defense asset; the US, if it really wants to continue to insist on a canal in the area, would really probably be better served by just building a newer, up-to-date, technologically current canal somewhere else that is far wider, far deeper, and more suited to being supportive of naval needs...

<O>
Trump, knows that. The Panamanians are charging the United States more to pass thru the canal. For any US registered ships. Here's the bite in the bark. Don't ask for millions of dollars to upkeep the canal that you now own. From a country that built the friggin thing and you bought for a dollar. And took control back in 1999 .
What has the Panamanian government done with all that money ? Oh let me guess the rulers, have mansions, jets, yachts, kids who get the best education in the USA. And they never miss a party in Monaco on the French Riviera. Now that the canal is in disrepair hey! Let's get the Americans to pay for repairs. While we let the Chinese, have control of each end of the canal. And that makes perfect sense for a American Politician. But the Donald is a citizen and that ****e is comming to an end.
