Default Kimuraijun. The Berbster. Defiance.

Cheers, me hearties.
KIMURIAJUN.
You are helping, dear friend, by the very virtue of the fact that you took the time to provide me with food for thought. I agree that there is an incompatibility somewhere in my mod soup, as you will appreciate, the problem lies in tracking the SOB down.
I have checked over half of the mods in my soup down to being Ok and I will eventually weed the offender out. i have changed the mod list so many times that I have lost account of where I am. A complete reinstall for the 20th time? It's looking to be on the cards.
Many thanks for providing food for thought.

The BERBSTER.
I know what you are saying my dear friend and of course, you are correct.
The mods that I have suit me very well both in sound, appearance and they are all working well together, or so it appears. However, there is incompatibilty here, without a shadow of a doubt.
I did not wish, however, to take one of the pre- packaged mods on offer, as excellent as they are, as I was hoping to personalize my own mods list to my own taste, as we all try to do, surely.
I am not too sure what mods are obscure, that you referred to. All mods came from mods offered on Subsim, which I have used successfully for a number of years, a goodly percentage from the good old Sobers downloads (whose list I would happily adopt), were it not for the fact that it caters for those knowledgeable enough to play (a) On 100% reality. (b) Manual navigation. Skills I have as yet to acquire.
His color mods are exceptional, I being a big fan of his for a long time together with his list offering recognized stability.

I thought that I had the working basics in place, as you originally helped set them up for me. Which am I missing?
Reference Sub Flags, I have never previously had any problems with this mod, therefore, I ask, why delete it?
Do you remember that super mod,DBSM, that we both liked, which appeared to dispense instant CTD?
With the kind help of good old Defiance, I found an equivalent mod to it that I feel you may like,Peter. Link below.

http://www.mediafire.com/download/b4...y378md/SFX.rar

Additionally, binoculars with viewable controls across the top, link below;
http://www.mediafire.com/download/bq...i1sc/Binos.rar
Try option 1 from therein.

I have removed and reinstalled Sub Flags and noted it appeared to make no difference at all.

I will keep trying to get sorted out and eventually get a game going.

Graham.

DEFIANCE.

One of these nights we will both get a normal nights sleep lol;

Sleeping or not acquiring sleep, that's one thing. However, part sleeping and waking up, going back to the computer in the wee hours, what are you creating? The hydrogen bomb? lol;

Delighted to hear that there may be a light at the end of the tunnel dear friend, I cannot wait to hear.
Ge THE BERBSTER on to TS, I see no reason why he should sleep soundly every night lol;
Graham.

Hi Def

Thanks for your reply.

I was only getting 15 to 17 fps in Kiel but the new Kiel mod has made a big difference.

I'm running antilag at 2 and 38 and I have my graphics reduced in options and other settings toned down plus using LR mods.

I get the feeling from what you are saying that my rig should be able to cope with higher settings?

I think with a new 4 gig graphic card I should be able to run HR mods and HR graphic options ok.

Hi Graham

I am running DBSM without Ctd's

The problem was with this mod.

SteelViking's Interior Mod V1.2

SteelViking's Interior Mod V1.2.2 Patch

I just love Stormy's mods and I am chuffed to bits that they are running ok.

My reference to obscure mods just means that they are not main stream and are a required taste if you know what I mean.

The other thing to look at is the age of some of those mods.

7-5-0 and v2.5 are high end and sophisticated compared to what was available a few years ago.

My reference to the obscure? mods you are using just means that they were never designed to work with these latest mods.

Default THEBERBSTER-MoD Layout

Hi Peter.
Your mod activation listing, any problems so far with it? (CTD etc)

Interesting, not too dissimilar from mine and I know most of the mods.
Do you not place the Stormy's mods together?
I am going to have to compromise with my layout somewhere down the line, I know.

Did you try that binoculars mod I sent to you? Thought it might help you retain the degree control I know you liked. There are other binocular files in the download, as well.
Why DynEnv v2.9 - 2. Main Mod Low Resolution Patch? Pardon my ignorance in respect of this mod. What exactly does it do?

I think I would miss the old Steel Vikings interior mod layout, though.

I notice that you include Sizzles marine Quadrant charts but exclude the other 4 sizzle mods?

Very interesting my friend.

Graham

You shouldn't need a 4 gig card to max out your settings. I have a 2 gig gtx 660 and I can max out 99% of games no problem and ask for seconds. I forget what card you said you have but I know it's a older one. You will definitely need to upgrade it but you don't (NEED) a 4 gig card. A 2-3 gig would save you money and be more then enough performance. You should also make sure you have a decent cpu. I got a amd fx 8 core cpu @4.2 ghz with a overclock rating of 5ghz at newegg for 200 bucks. well worth the money but a decent quad core should do you just fine.

Hi Capt L

My rig specs are

Dell XPS8100 > Windows 7 Home Premium > 64 Bit

I7-860 Processor 2.8Ghz 4 cores 1333Mhz

16 Gig Ram

ATI Radeon HD5770GFX 1 gig

1 TB Sata 7,200rpm

If I went for the 2gig instead of the 4 I could probably afford an SSD as well.

Peter

Hi Graham

No ctd’s other than one in Danzig Bay.

Only the second time I have got into Kiel without a ctd.

On patrol EBCW and Scapa no problems to report.

Someone gave me the ‘new KM binos mod’ a long time ago now but that only changed the binos for the crew.

With Large Optics the binos do not have the gradules so takes longer to spot ships.

Why DynEnv v2.9 - 2. Main Mod Low Resolution Patch? Pardon my ignorance in respect of this mod. What exactly does it do?

My understanding is that LR’ mods reduce the strain on the graphics.

Sober uses it, so I thought it is good enough for him then it’s good enough for me.

I cannot use Sjizzles’s charts.

When I use them I lose the ‘Speed Conversion’ charts.

But I do see Sjizzles Equipment Upgrades Dates Charts.

When I enable the mod ‘Equipment Upgrades Dates Charts’ I cannot see it.
The SFX sound mod looks good.

I do not know how this compares with ‘Stormys’ sounds.

I like the different keyboard layout with ‘Stormys’ over the ‘Stock’ one.

Also when using his keyboard and pressing the ‘Z key’ will give you from the hydrophone the contacts course in the ‘Message Box’ each time you press this key.

This is very accurate if you want to use 4 bearings.

I will take a look at the binos mod (you recommend no1) when I am back in the bunker.

What does this mod do Optional Binocular 1?

I thought Sjizzle had a minefield map in one of his charts.

So is this necessary? OH II Minefield map for TDWs Ui

Thanks for the mod links, have downloaded.

Ya you have two problems. First your gpu is in dire need of a replacement. If you want absolute gaming power and want to use a 4k monitor then I would suggest you go with a gtx 760 or above, Keep in mind that will run you between 3-700 bucks. Better off waiting till the 800 series comes out end of this year early 2015. At the absolute minimum, I would go with a 560 ti although a 660 would be better performance for your buck. You should have no problem finding a 600 series for 200 or less on newegg. They also come in 2 and 3 gig versions.

Second problem is you have a dell. They suck. The problem with buying from manufacturers is that #1 they will charge you a arm and a leg for components and #2 the components they put into there pc's is very limited in terms of upgrading. For example, if you ever want to upgrade your cpu then you will most likely need a new motherboard otherwise the cpu's that are compatible for the (dell) mobo will not provide enough of a performance gain to justify the super high cost of some of the newer cpu's.

Rule of thumb is NEVER EVER buy components from a manufacturer such as dell. They will charge you 2-3 times what the item is actually worth. I highly recommend newegg for pc shopping. You will literally save thousands by shopping with them.

Other then that your good. you have a decent cpu and you have 16 gigs of ram which is awsome. Also I would highly recommend a ssd. They are 10 times faster then a mechanical drive and last much longer because they have no moving parts. I hope this helps. If you have any questions I'd be happy to help.

EDIT, You can usually find a 120g ssd on newegg for around 60 bucks.

EDIT#2, I only listed nvidia cards because I have very limited knowledge of amd cards as I've never used them.

Hi Capt L

Thanks for your reply.

I am fortunate that I have a computer shop just up the road run by a husband and wife and he can source me anything for a reasonable price.

He does not rip you off and he has put by for me a shop soiled gaming cabinet for 60 bucks that is all singing and dancing that the guy turned down as it was not perfect and had a small mark.

I will be using a Nvidia gpu.

It may have been the Gtx 760 my guy was talking about as that is 4 gigs.

Is there any benefit with a 4 gig gpu for SH5 or would a 2 gig be more than capable?

My cpu is only 350w and he says he can uprate it with one that uses a moderator for under a 100 bucks.

He tells me the motherboard is not a problem.

I like the sound of the SSD the more I hear about it.

When it comes to gpu's there are 4 things you need to take into account. Boost clock, core clock, cuda cores, and video memory. Boost and core clock are super important. The higher those numbers the more powerful the gpu is. Cuda cores are semi important. The amount of cuda cores your card has determines how well the gpu will render video. This includes watching netflix and cinematics during games. The more cuda cores you have the better but it's not super important. When it comes to video memory more is always better. Heres the thing though. For games like sh5, 2 gigs is more then enough. My 660 has 2 gigs of memory and My sh5 runs smooth like a babies ass on max settings and with my mod soup activated. Heres my card. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130826

Now if you intend on playing any of the (NEWER) games like star citizen then I would go with a 4 gig card. As far as the case that your talking about keep two things in mind. Size and ventilation. I would advise that you take down the measurements of the case and compare it with your components and make sure everything will fit and have room to breath. The newer the gpu the bigger it gets. Some of the bigger ones get up to 12 inches long, can be very bulky, and obviously the more powerful the gpu the more heat it will generate. Make sure you have adequate ventilation and cooling. Also keep in mind your power requirements. If you upgrade your cpu and or gpu make sure your psu can handle the load with power to spare or else you will have outages.

Hi Capt L

Nice piece of kit too expensive for me.

My Psu is only 350w and will need upgrading and will come with a moderator in it so I am told.

The gpu is a Geforce GTX770 this is very long and that is just one reason why I need a new case.

I am quite happy playing SH4 and SH5.

I guess you are saying go for a 4 gig gpu over the 2 gig!

Peter

Hi Peter.
just a quickie in reference to the SFX file that I sent to you as a substitute for DBSM mod.
This is an older mod, however, it appears to work fine with Steele Vikings mods. Order of placement:-

U-Boat Ballast Tanks SFX
U-Boat Propulsion SFX
U-Boat Radio Room Telemetry SFX
Unterseeboot SFX
U-Boat Watch Crew Routine SFX

put last in mods, therefore, if you are not happy with them, easy to remove.

Reference the binoculars mod, this is for the Captain, not crew, and it incorporates the degree control across the top.

Regards.
Graham.

770, nice. I wish I could afford a new card right now lol. It's the last thing I need for my new rig. You will notice a massive performance increase with that card over your old one. 2 gig is the minimum your card should have to ensure smooth operation for most games but a 4 gig would ensure you can play any of the super gpu intensive games that are starting to come down the pipework. So in short if you can get a 4 gig for a decent price then go for it. You can always get a ssd later on if you can't afford it right away.

Hi Graham

Thanks for the info.

I will take a look once I get back to the bunker.

Sounds good.

I will keep the SFX mod in reserve for now.
