Consider it another formulation of Murphys Law. It just is omnipresent.

Sorry Nisgeis, but I agree wholeheartedly with Fincuan, John W. Hamm, and the others on this one...

It was UbiSoft and UbiSoft alone who decided that an always-on internet connection was needed to play this game. In doing so, they left themselves wide open to anyone who wanted to shut them down, and even to the possibility that their own servers could fail...leaving thousands of customers unable to play.

You cannot blame anyone but UbiSoft for what they, themselves decided was the only considered solution to manage the use of their product.

When we (I) bought this game, there was an underlying assumption that if we (I) had an internet connection, we could play (the box specifically states that " A permanent high speed internet connection and creation of a UbiSoft account are required to play this game at all times", but nowhere does it state that we must be connected to the singular non-redundant UbiSoft server, it simply states that we must create an account, and have a permanent connection to the INTERNET )...and it is reasonable to assume that if a UbiSoft server-side error occured that prevented a connection at any one time, that the client software (SHV on our end) would run a diagnostic that confirms we have a connection to said internet...determines that the server is at fault...and allows play as usual. Of course that would assume that UbiSoft had the paying customer in mind when it made it's decison about using this DRM.

Unfortunately, as I stated before, this DRM system is acutally less about piracy (which it does not prevent) and more about controlling customer access to future paid content and upgrades (which it is ideal for, from a targeted marketing prespective).

There are numerous means to protect copyright and piracy, none of which would have been as vulnerable to DDOS attacks...but UbiSoft chose the worst one, and the least effective...leaving themselves open and at the mercy of anyone wishing to shut them down. The only one who you can reasonably blame, is UbiSoft themselves.

I doubt anyone at Ubi is walking around without a towel to mop away sweat right now. Some major wrench has been thrown into the works, be it human error/interference, unforseen circumstances, whatever the case may be. I can imagine some very stressed-out techs working like mad to solve the problem with the deadline being last week.

I'm not going to defend Ubi's current means of software protection, but I try not to forget that there are people who choose to work in that field of technology who really do care about their customers. If I were lead on any of their teams, that team would be celebrated with a hearty meal, plenty of drinks, all at my own expense, once the problems have been resolved.

That said, I hope the connection issues clear up ASAP, for everyone's sake, and now resume my lurkitude.

Well I finally was able to pick up a copy at bb today and of course I cannot get it to run.
I installed it along with the ubi auto patch and when I try to register it says I already have an account and cannot have two accounts off of the same email addy.
OK so I request the forgoten info and it replies with "there is no record of an account on this email addy".
So it thinks I need to register but when I try it says I already have an account but when I request the info they deny I have an account at all
Anyone have a suggestion to get this resolved?
I am trully pissed off right now.
FYI the website would come up during the install process so who knows what is going on.....
Ya know I usually expect some hang ups esp with new titles but have generally had good luck getting stuff to run but I have to agree with folks here ...this company really seems to have its headgear misplaced....

Well it is the same problem everywhere I turn with this company.
I tried it again several times ...same result.
So I go to open a trouble ticket or post a question on their support forum but one cannot do so unless ....wait for it...yes you must be logged in and registered. BIg Sigh.....I need a smoke at this point or something might get destroyed....

Did you see new "read me" file ?

It should be played Mon-Fri 8.00-16.00.

Disturbing DRM for weekend at your own risk...

Heh, Ubi's customer base doing its thing is the equivalent of a Distributed Denial of Service (DDOS) attack.

Has there been official response that this was another DDOS attack?
My gut feeling is it is just UBI servers not being able to handle weekend traffic, but can't say for sure.
