Can you even have a Civilian Type 209? I don't think they go around letting people drive warships just like that...

In remembrance of the glory days of my youth and the very first submarine novel I have ever read:

I suggest "SS Seeblitz", the name of the sub in that book !

I don't have any ideas as for a name for the sub, nor no idea how much one would cost, but I do have an idea.

If the funds are sufficient enough, or lets just say that money isn't a factor, maybe you could hire a team and raise up an Operation Deadlight boat.

http://www.uboat.net/fates/deadlight_list.htm

Here's a list, quickly looking through it, I think either a type VII-C, such as U-245 would suffice our craving for a sub.

-------

Of course, if you really wanted something historic, remember the three subs that were found off the Turkish coast, U-19, U-20, and U-23? You could have one of these raised, probably for cheaper because in shallower water, and Otto Kretschmer himself commanded U-23. Talk about history!

It's also said that these three boats were scuttled, and, according to an interview found here:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worl...Black-Sea.html

these boats might be "a significant find because these U-boats were all scuttled, so they should be intact, like a sealed tube. They are unique survivors of the war.""

SS Nasty ... How does that sound?

Spend a few years on the boats and that's what they become. I only went six weeks without a shower in the Gulf of Alaska on the USS Salmon SS-573, but some of them went a lot longer than I did till we hit San Francisco.

What do you plan on doing with this, wink, wink, fictional type209 diesel submarine anyway, Neal?

I can imagine us standing around somewhere in Denmark later on this year wondering where the heck our trusted Onkel is when a lot of bubbles all of a sudden make an end to that wondering and some illusive sub will come up, pop the hatch and some Texan jumps out.

Abraham. I think it would be a nice mark of respect.
