In the first decade of last century and up to the middle of it, patients with health problems and diseases of many kinds often were send to climatic spas (Luftkurorte), usually at higher altitude in the mountains. And it was well-illustrated that this indeed often helped, had a lasting curing or an easing effect in symptoms. But the term climatic spa/Luftkurort probably was misleading, and these places and institutions should have been called "light spas"/Lichtkurorte) instead. Its not the sight of the blue sky and green alms and snow-covered mountains that helps, nor is it the cold refreshing temperature or the clean air, but its the sunlight and the UV radiation that does the magic.

For that reason our recommendations to use as much sunblocker as possible, maybe do more harm than good, too. Some pragmatic reason is on order and must be appllied here, a dogmatic: reduc eall UV as muchg as spissible" - that probably is not what it should b about. That it does not get too muzch: that is the trick. Needing UV we definetly do! If you bake yourself in the sun too long, your skin's health is at risk in summer sunlight, but if you use sunblocker for every minute you leave the house, your skin does not get any UV - which you need. Just not too much of it, please.

It can be easier managed and controlled with clothes, than with cream. I have become more careful with using suncream, and this although I have very white, pale skin. I use it, but only during sufficiently long exposition times, namely my day-long bike tours, and then only on the hands, neck, face. I wear a hat, and shirts with long arms from the expedition store, they are light, you do not warm up additionally, but they have ligh protection factors of 50 (you do not get that much from ordinary cotton T-shirts and such common textiles). Since 4 years or so, since I used sunblockers of high factors, I started to suffer from additional photodermatosis, and very serverly so. It eased again after I reduced sunblockers. It also eased a bit when I started to generally supplement.

The German health minister said this today:

"And if I am to be honest, it is that I expect that we will be dealing with the pandemic for a very long time. You can really think in terms of ten years."







Is that the wet dream of a law-and-order politician? Well, neither the economy nor the social community will hold together that long. Already now they are shaken and changed - not for the better. If I sholod give an estimation, then I would say that in my town, every fifth to every fourth shop and restaurant is gone, changed owner and business. And oth bog strorehouses we have here are threatened with closing (the big storehouses were in bad shape already before Corona, but Corona has drastically accelerated the death of those that are still left).

And it has just begun.

Lauterbach continued with pointing at the basic immunity that is spreading. Still, if despite that the pandemic nevertheless causes these ammounts of fallouts, we better find better weapons to tackle it. For in this way we will not get through it in one piece.


And just a thought of mine. What if within the coming ten years another, totally different and way more dangerous pandemic breaks out? Unrealistic or unlikely that is not. From SARS 1 to MERS it were 5 years only.

The Queen has tested positive for Covid, Buckingham Palace has said.

The monarch is experiencing "mild cold-like symptoms" but expects to continue "light duties" at Windsor over the coming week, the palace said.

"She will continue to receive medical attention and will follow all the appropriate guidelines," it added in a statement.

An end to all remaining Covid legal restrictions in England will be announced later by Boris Johnson.

The PM was due to agree it in talks with ministers this morning - but there have been delays to that cabinet meeting.

He is due to address MPs this afternoon and hold a press conference later.

It's expected that people will no longer be required to self-isolate if they test positive for Covid.

Labour have questioned any moves to limit free testing.

The Queen, 95, has Covid but is expected to carry out some light duties this week.

Australia meanwhile reopens its international border for the first time in nearly two years.

An additional booster dose should be offered to all adults over-75 and the most vulnerable over-12s this spring, the UK's vaccines advisory body says.

Many of the oldest received their latest shot back in the autumn and this extra dose will help top up protection against severe Covid-19.

An autumn booster programme, aimed at a wider group of people, is also planned.

The UK nations are expected to accept the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) advice.
