More good news: not only is Omikron minimum four times as infectous as Delta, but it also holds a higher risk of catching reinfections. The risk for that seems to be at least three times higher than with other strains of Covid-19.

BioNTech-Pfizer went first, now follows Moderna with claiming that their vaccine has demonstrated in their research that if used as a booster it increases level of antibodies 37-fold, and a double booster raises them by even 83 factors.

Maybe Omicron isn't so bad than Delta variant, but if you look at how many being admitted these days with omicron, one can see a sharp increase compared to when the Delta came. Between 15 and 20 people are admitted every day, the majority of whom are people infected with omicron. A small portion of them are reinfection

Weeks before Omicron came the number in hospital was stable. Going up and down on daily basis.

Edit
The highest number infected in hospital was in Jan-20 where 947 was admitted. Today the number is 560-20 more than yesterday. Going to be interesting to see if these new restriction can decrease the number being admitted to the hospital.
End edit

That indeed is the problem with Omikron. The "gains" of having a lower rate of serious cases when seen in percentage of all infections, is hopelessly marginalised by the total numbers of total cases beingn so high, several times as high, as if the total numbers of severe cases nevertehless wouldn't also rise, and significantly.

Meanwhile, sometimes fate strikes the right one. An AfD member of a German state parliament who has agitated against Corona measurements and denied that the pandemic is a serious thing, got infected and now has died from Covid-19. I will waste a tear if over the day I feel bored a bit.

Talking about Denmark
Washington Post has an article about Denmark and this Omicron variant.

Quote:
In a country that tracks the spread of coronavirus variants as closely as any in the world, the signals have never been more concerning. Omicron positives are doubling nearly every two days. The country is setting one daily case record after another. The lab analyzing positive tests recently added an overnight shift just to keep up.

The more cases the more mutations, spoiling it for all.

Two new studies on the risk of myocarditis due to being vaccinated:

https://www.bmj.com/content/375/bmj-2021-068665

The German FR comments:
Quote:
According to the study, the risk of heart muscle inflammation is increased in Denmark, especially in women between the ages of 12 and 39. This is surprising, incompatible with previous data and difficult to explain, writes medicine professor Walid Gellad from the University of Pittsburgh in the British Medical Journal about the results of the study. Overall, however, the study confirms what is already known about vaccine-associated myocarditis: "That it is rare, but it does exist."

In the study, the registered cases of cardiac muscle diseases after a corona vaccination were then related to myocarditis diseases that had occurred in non-vaccinated people during the same period, reports the Ärzteblatt. In this comparison, no significant increase was detectable after Biontech vaccinations, but with Moderna vaccinations the data indicated an approximately four times higher probability, according to the Ärzteblatt. However, most of the affected people were able to leave the hospital within 72 hours.

None of the people vaccinated with Moderna developed heart failure. The people vaccinated with Biontech developed one fatal heart failure. Of the 155 patients in the control group, seven suffered heart failure and three died. The risk of dying from myocarditis is therefore even lower for vaccinated people than for unvaccinated people.

The FR comments:

Quote:
A study published in the journal Nature comes to a similar conclusion. The researchers from Great Britain compared how often heart diseases occur after corona vaccinations and Covid-19 infections. The result of the study: the risk of having to be treated in hospital for myocarditis after being infected with the coronavirus is higher than after having a corona vaccination.

The research team led by Julia Hippisley-Cox from the University of Oxford examined whether there was more frequent heart muscle inflammation, pericarditis or cardiac arrhythmias in the first 28 days after a vaccination. To this end, the researchers analyzed data from Great Britain, such as the "Hospital Episode Statistics", which record all hospital diagnoses in Great Britain, as well as data on deaths and positive corona test results, reports the Ärzteblatt. Within 28 days of the first Biontech vaccination, an additional myocarditis disease occurred per million people. After a single vaccination with the Moderna vaccine, there were six cases per million people, after the second vaccination ten. However, the values were significantly higher after corona infections.

In the first 28 days after a positive test, there were 40 additional heart muscle diseases per million people. The researchers were only able to determine an increased risk of heart muscle inflammation after vaccinations with the mRNA vaccines in the age group under 40 years.

South African scientists - hailed for their discovery of Omicron - are investigating the "highly plausible hypothesis" that the emergence of new Covid-19 variants could be linked, in some cases, to mutations taking place inside infected people whose immune systems have already been weakened by other factors, including, though not limited to, untreated HIV.

Researchers have already observed that Covid-19 can linger for many months in patients who are HIV positive but who have, for varying reasons, not been taking the medicines that would enable them to lead healthy lives.

"Normally your immune system would kick a virus out fairly quickly, if fully functional," said Professor Linda-Gayle Bekker, who heads the Desmond Tutu HIV Foundation in Cape Town.

Sure people may have not died but as the articles you posted states myocarditis is a response to infection AND vaccination.

Myocarditis is serious and if left untreated can still kill months later especially in people who don’t even know they have it. Enjoy your bike rides hope your heart wasn’t affected by the vaccine.

FYI most reputable articles also have an authors conflict of interests statement like those found in real peer reviewed journals
