Well gentlemans, complain to Churchill not me. Brits used planes to drop mines around the german ports, Kiel was one of their favorite spot. Now, I dont find it realistic to have mines right in the ports, but after getting out and the land is not visible anymore, be prepared for what is worst. Here is a map with minefileds in North Sea:

These are the main areas where I put mines. You will have a small corridor free of mines, but you will need to travel a lot for that. Or, take your chances and try break the mine field.. u may have luck.

I was a bit sad as you can just dive and sail under them, but seems like TDW solved this problem.. now I can lower the mines and put even more, so the traffic will not blow them away. This will be helpful in Gibraltar where I could not put to many mines because of the big traffic. If you want some hardcore experience, try pass the english channel. Post back if you had reach the Atlantic in 1 piece, you deserve a medal.

No more BBQ parties at Scapa. Nets, mines all around with your name on them. Thanks Trevally for the map, seems like I need to work a bit more on the Scapa area, I really needed a map like this.

Most of the brit ports are mined, so no more camping enemy ports for easy tonnage hunt. Not sure about US.. they used mines as far as I know, but where and when?

PS: ddrgn, do you have a screenie with a mine map used in SH3. I dont feel like installing all that jazz just to see a map.

Not sure what you mean. the nets are marked on the map.

As you can see the defences are post scapa raid. See the 1939 map for early war.

For the Churchill barriers

Quote:
Work began on the barriers in May 1940, and the channels were effectively blocked by the end of 1942. By 1944 they had been so built up that locals were using a road built over them to drive between the islands – and they are still used as roads today
The extra defences would have started early 1940. Mines and nets would have been placed quite quickly with extra block ships in Hoy Sound between the islands of Graemsay and Hoy. I cant find specific dates but by mid 1940, most should be in place.

Thanks Kartengruppe for the map, I really appreciated it! As far as I see the map is from WW1, same as the map posted by me. I find it hard to understand why there is no map about the WW2 naval minefields.

Anyway, you guys take a good look at the map as this is implemented in the mod, I need to adjust a bit the mine area around Germany, seems like the passage is narrower than I thought.

You will have a very little time period when you can sail free in north sea and also the chance to make the legendary trip of Prien and sunk Royal Oak. Starting October 39 up to January 40, the sea will be filled with mines and getting out to Atlantic will be a real challenge.

Waiting for TDW to adjust the mines and nets, then the gates of hell will open.

Nope... that' mean the game will be immersive... no more travel the english channel and no more go in ports to sink ships there... i only hope that Zedi will not add mines in the bunker underwater also

All this mine talk has me thinking I'm going to blow myself up here soon during a campaign.

You can always remove the mod if you don't like it...

But for me, this is gonna be a must have mod.

Sober, what do you mean by indicator loops? Also, what are those boom defenses? Are they the wrecks blockades? Sadly, we cannot recreate all that stuff as for now we have only mines and nets, but I think that should be enough to stop the free fun in Scapa.

Anyway, Scapa is completely reworked now but the new defences will be available after Prien historical attack date, So there is a short opportunity for everybody to be Prien, after October 39 Scapa is sealed. And even if someone will manage to get through somehow, it will be almost impossible to launch torpedoes as they will never hit any target. At least in theory.. who knows, maybe we have another Prien among us.

Regarding the mines... the stock campaign out of box is a joke. Go there, sink that, show off on u-play This is a sim about WW2 and a warmachine and doing damage to the enemy is not going to be unpunished. Only skilled captains should survive and be awarded on returning home. If.. is any return home.

But this will not be a mission impossible. You got you mine map and the mines itself will not be a 1 shot kill, but your sub will be disabled for a long time. So you will need to plan careful your route. Or.. take you chances and try to force the mine blockade, raid ports etc. Everything has a cost, there is nothing free.

And for those who play with high realism and real nav, this will be a really hardcore experience :P
