Only just found the General Topics forum, so only just latched on to this.
I am also in a bad situation Steve.
After 20 years of doing a skilled job I find that the skilled job I can do is no longer needed. I am now unemployed trying to find if I can do something else.
Not trying to hijack this thread. Just letting you know that you are not alone in this situation.

If anything is going to get you through this dark time it is this.

I have found that sometimes it is good enough just to know that you have people thinking about you and rooting for you in your darkest times.
Sure, objectively you know that it can't possibly make any difference.
But subjectively, I think it makes all the difference in the world.
You are not alone.

Best of luck to you mate . I once worked with a fellow who told me that his father told him to become a typewriter mechanic , you will have a job for life he told him .

Not at all. I spent a year-and-a-half in and out of shelters, ending two years ago when I got into a place. Made it work for awhile. I had a thread going that whole time too.

Anyway, I have a roof and a couple hundred roommates, so I'll survive. And I have Subsim, so I have lots to read (not to mention an endless supply of books from the library) and plenty to keep me busy.

Someone mentioned porn (those performers are usually more or less naked), and you once mentioned you're playing in a band from time to time. It just reminded me of that crazy guy in New York City, the half-naked cowboy who plays in the streets. I don't know if he earns a lot of money, but he sure got some attention that way.

Maybe you need to have a great idea like he did, combining it with the music, which you love. I don't know how willing you are to move to another city if that's what it would take to become succesfull (whatever that means). But maybe you just need to think in new directions. Not indicating that you should be a porn perfomer while playing the guitar though...

Just venting some of my crazy philosophical ideas....

I guess this needs an update. As of February 1 I've been on the streets again. The 'friend' who invited me to stay with him in December took my money and then didn't pay the rent.

I'm surviving. Obvious, since I'm coming to the library and posting every day. The band is still recording (at home - there's no money in it) and I'm getting unemployment while I look for work.
