Am just concluding my first patrol using GWX; bloody brilliant!!!!

Although I swapped the 8 hour variant for fatigue to the RUB in SH3Cmdr I have stuck with everything else.

Unless you have played this mod one truely cannot appreciate why there are so many posts similar to this praising this work.

From the variable speed on the surface depending on the wind direction and waves, the way some vessels are lit up like christmas trees, the amended ship screw sounds, and the way ships now take take damage and sink is fantastic; if you have been away for a while then this is the reason to return to SH3 before SH4 is released.

Three questions if I may.

First, I am playing with the maps updated, and can accept that it affects both the navigational map and the TDC. Now I suddenly see ships appearing on my nav map; am I right to assume these replace the radio messages giving positional fixes?

Secondly, returning back to Kiel, and having identified it as a neutral I passed a merchant at x1026 on the nav map; next it sunk! No collision or damage to my boat, nor close enough to land to cause it to run aground. Any ideas what happened?

Finally, am I right to assume that the traffic is scripted to be realistic as opposed to bountiful?

Again, thanks for this and for SH3Cmdr. Now, back to my game to finish off some lone Polish merchant trying to slip out into the North Sea.

Glad you enjoyed your first patrol

The icons appearing on the map are to simulate spotted ships\radio intercepts
You will still get contact reports for convoys but not for single ships

:hmm: Could b any number of reasons it sunk
Weather or minefield perhaps - or a rogue uboat :rotfl:

Traffic has always been realistic and has not been toned down much
However the frequency those contacts will be displayed on map or reported by radio have been dramatically reduced

They are still there - just not handed to you on a plate
The hunt is on

Though I hate to see it go... It is time to de-commission this thread. I don't see the need for two GW/GWX sticky threads... and I can't think of a better replacement for it than Fubar's U-boat skin thread.

Its about time Fubar!!! ... TOOK YA LONG ENOUGH!!! LOL.

Following the review of GW1.1a by GameSpy, Fileplanet has continued to host it.

It has been downloaded nearly 22,000 times from that location alone. Therefore, it is certainly reasonable to find that there are ppl still using it.

Heck, maybe he just wasn't in the mood to upgrade to GWX.

As per the above post by Kpt. Lehman ( and through a recent PM with him) , this thread is being closed, the original Grey Wolves mod has been superceded by GWX. To locate GWX check out it's Official Thread:http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=102096
