Flank ahead would probably do it, try slowing down a bit you will find energy conservation will work. If you want more battery power (blasphemy) just pm me.

Bingo! High submerged speeds will really eat up your battery. According to u-boat.net, "In WW1 a submarine was able to navigate underwater 50 hours with speed of 2 knots and 1 hour with speed of 7 to 10 knots." (I know, wrong war, but indicative of the effect of speed on battery life, which as a principle really didn't change between the wars). Under the Type IID specs it shows a range of 56 miles at 4 knots submerged. If correct, that translates to about 14 hours of battery life at 4 knots. It's clear from experience in the game and reading that the batteries in these boats would actually last a lot longer (24+ hours) at very low speeds (1 or 2 knots), so it's logical to assume that they wouldn't last nearly as long at very high speeds. Your test indicates a likely battery life of about 140 minutes (a little over 2 hours) at flank speed, which u-boat.net lists as 7.4 knots, assuming the battery drain is constant (which it may not be - I can imagine it would get worse toward the end, but maybe not) . That translates to about a 100% improvement over the batteries in the WWI subs, based on the first quote above. I'd say what you're seeing as flank speed battery drain seems to be just about right.

there is a finite limit of underwater range in the game ie 90km@4kts
how fast that baseline range depletes against the defined battery charge amount changes with speedsettings so conserve it all boys thats why they call them simulations. (changing speed to range ratio or battery charge will drastically effect the siutation) however such behaviour is not considered ethical.

I dont recall 1.1a having the auto pause on contact with ship or plane on surface, and then giving you 3 options to dive to periscope stay surfaced etc etc..

Wasnt that wiped out the sim a long time ago? i dont see no options in sh3 commander for it so guess its a supermod alteration.. is it back ? has it always been there? or has something fecked up ?

cheers,

Moose.

That's part of the official 1.4b patch. If you are properly patched you will have the pause/choice option.

No, I mean the autopause. It was created by the UBI team for the official 1.4b patch.

I've installed a clean SHIII

I have a few questions?

Do i need to install the other updates or can i just download 1.4b

Which are the best Components to select for installation

'Das Boot' Background Movie
Enhanced sea floor textures
Atmosphere 8km Dark or 16km light or 16km dark
Generic ship contact names
24 hour fatigue model
Remove friendly mines
Remove Swastikas

Thanks for your help

No just patch the SH3 version with 1.4b and you're all set.

Changes the sea floor and makes it more realistic. Be careful though as it is heavy on CPU and RAM

The 8km means you see up to 8km (visual) the 16km means that you see double the normal distance (obviously the same applies for the enemy). The Dark and light versions have to do with the brightness of your monitor (basically the nights look brighter or darker)

If you use this you will have to identify the targets manually. That means you will not know if the ship is a merchant or a DD.

It causes bugs to the game. Don't use it. It's better to alter the fatigue model using SH3Cmd

Self-explanatory actually

In my opinion you should try GWX. The expansion of GW 1.1a. It's far better with more ships, better damage model, larger map, new theaters of operation etc. You can download it from the link in my signature.

Thanks again

Does GWX go on a clean install and patched 1.4b also?

Can I download it on one file or does it have to be in stages?

I have a G-Force4 graphics card will that be good enough?

If your computer can cope with GW it can play GWX. To install GWX you need to have a CLEAN patched to 1.4b intallation of SH3. As far as the download is concerned, get all the GWX bin and executable files, put them in one directory and run the installer (the .exe file). At the prompt give the installer the path where you want GWX to be installed (it has to be a SH3v1.4b path as well) and you're ready to go. It's really simple, but if you have any problems let me know and I'll do all I can to help you.

Hi charlesmester

I play the GERMAN gwx version.

I have activated the hull integrity in my german gwx version
in Data/menu/de_menu.txt.
The Number 589 ist empty.
There you can write this command:
589=RUMPFZUSTAND %s %

Then is the hull integrity on.

I think in the ENGLISH version is it nearly the same:

Data/menu/en_menu.txt.
The Number 589 ist empty.
There you can write this command:
589=hullintegrity %s %

Preuss

That worked. Thanks, mate.

I assume you mean V7476, which was stationed primarily at Laverton and used for demonstration purposes.

Anyway, GWX does not spawn RAAF Hurricanes in or even near Australia - they are in the Museum to reflect the fact that Australia did use them during WWII. Indeed, it provides flexibility if one wants to add them to an airbase in North Africa or the like.

The appearance of the roundel sans red dot on the Hurricane in the Museum is a limitation of SH3 - it only provides one roundel to cover the whole war. As most/all activity relating to the RAAF in GWX is in the SW Pacific, the correct post-November 1942 RAAF Type SWPA roundel is used. I mean, seeing a Cat off the coast of Sydney with correct region roundel outweighs seeing a RAAF Hurricane with the same roundel only in the Museum.

However, to overcome some of SH3's limitations in this regards, I'm running an SH3Cmdr add-on that I created which changes the roundels of all countries that historically did so at the appropriate dates. Thus RAAF planes in *my* SH3 get the correct RAAF Type M2 roundel until November 1942 and then the latter variation SWPA roundel after April 1944. I haven't decided whether or not to release the add-on to the masses, and I'm waiting to hear from some others on related aspects.

Anyway, here's how all roundels appear in my game... http://www.users.on.net/~jscones/markings/markings.htm

The only other alternative is to clone and specifically hand paint all aircraft, but again, unless one used SH3Cmdr to update plane skins as the war progressed, you still wouldn't have a full workaround to these SH3 limitations.

But these limitations are understandable - I mean, SH3 is a u-boat sim, not a flight sim and the aim is to avoid aircraft, not marvel at their wonderful paint schemes! :rotfl:

Yes, my fave plane. IIRC its omission was simply an oversight.

I was away interstate during the week prior to GWX release, which coincidently was the week that Serg's planes were being adapted and included in GWX. Thus I did not get a chance to "QA" this aspect and ensure that one was added.

No dramas though, one can very easily be added to the Australian Roster (will need a start date change to reflect "our" later acquisition) and I'm sure this can be done for the next GWX update.

However, as RAAF Mosquitos in the Pacific did not take part in ASW, you still won't see one in the region.

FWIW I would *love* to see a Mosquito carrying the correct 3:8 ratio SWPA roundel (yes, I'm a bit of an aircraft freak, especially when it comes to the RAAF).

Every aircraft under the Australia Roster belongs there (even the P38, although again, due to SH3 design, it utilises a "hard-painted" US roundel).

Fortunately, the GWX campaign researcher is ex-RAAF (well, Reserves, but still...).
