One thing I don't understand with regards to the traffic jams on the toll roads. Everyone knew the storm was coming days in advance. The forecasters told everyone again, days in advance how much the snow totals would be and when the snows would start.
Yet there were people stranded on the roadways. Without food, water and perhaps medication. This was a life threatening ordeal. The clogged roadways prevented the snow plows from being able to come in and do their jobs. My concerns were for the older people and people and kids in general in areas where electrical power was lost and they had no heat and also animals left out in the cold and snow. |

The HOA finally got the street in front of our house plowed. I have about 50 cubic feet of snow to clear way to get my vehicle clear.
I am sure my back will be complaining later today. ![]()

There is also the question of being used to it. In Montreal, we get an average of 6-7 feet of snow every winter, so the city is equipped with enough snowplows and salt/abrasives for the road. Even in a blizzard, the highway department keeps the main highways open.
Every driver has snow tires and knows how to drive in winter. Most have 4wd vehicles. Winter driving is a skill you have to practice regularly, even with snow tires and 4wd, your car reacts differently on snow and ice. If you are not used to it, it will easily spin out.

Hmm, do companies tell their drivers not to drive, under certain conditions? Or is it a "the load must go through or you lose your job" thing?

anobody here watch this show? One of my favorite, "Highway thru hell" about tow truck drivers on the Coquihalla Highway in B.C. It goes through the Rocky Mountains and has some of the worst winter weather in Canada and yes, it is open year round.

![]() Doesn't put strain on your back as the point is not shoveling the snow, but pushing it (preferably to your neighbors drive way). |

I haven't seen that but have seen episodes of " Ice Road Truckers " Those people have nerves of steel that drive semi trucks over frozen lakes and rivers. I would imagine the tow truck operators probably face similar situations and weather conditions. Catfish made a good point regarding the tractor trailer operators being under orders to " get the load through " . Sounds reasonable. Only the drivers involved can answer that. Perhaps there are driver / operators here with some insight into operations during adverse weather conditions ? |

I am really glad my company is closed today. I checked my anatomy books and I have pains where humans do not have muscles.
![]() There are about 640 muscles in the human body and all 800 of them hurt today. But I got all the snow cleared. I wished I still had my snow blower though.

I am fortunate that a good friend has a pickup with a plow. Cleaned the driveway in minutes for $20.00
