I redid that last mission to Hokkaido. Came back with 65,000 tonnes. Half my loadout was duds.
Seems the patrol boats are the most aggressive. I found two both used as coastal escorts of small convoys. The Atami river patrol boat, while not finding me did a much better job of heading the scene and trying to find me than DD, DE and others have. The Hira river patrol boat had no engines sounds and its propellers did not move while it was in motion. This was observed for a few hours so I know it wasn't a sprint and drift technique.

I downloaded the mod, then I get to the start screen where the loading bar comes to full, then the game freezes. I get tons of error messages and the game closes out to desktop. I did a clean install on vanilla. Any ideas?

You had river gunboats as convoy escorts??? They might escort a small inter-island convoy, but shouldn't be on the open sea... Also, they are Type=0 and should have sound associated with them... Digging some more.
Now, what do you consider a "Patrol Boat"? To the IJN, they were the older second class DD (Minekaze, Momi & Wakatake)... either way though, unless they are a Type=104, you should hear them on sonar... |

... about sonar, my guy is very often deaf, even with ships quite close
I can hear them clearly, and even the ship type is written on note pad. But not my sonar guy. When i ask him to follow the ship (when he can!) he very quickly loose it. Is it a Bug or my guy isn’t enough skilled? (I don’t have this problem in other SH4 megamod)

what version of SH4 are you running? (my apologies if this is a repeat for you). it sounds like you installed 1.4 and are modding with 1.5 mods which is not going to be successful.

This mod will not work unless your version is 1.5

It was off the northern coast of Hokkaido. They were rounding Cape Nosappu to move SW along the coast. They never made it. The Atami was fine but the Hira had no sound and its propellers did not move. The game list Hira and Atami as patrol boats.

Lifesaving during regular mission
if in the course of a regular career-mission, you encounter friendly "survivors" will SH4 give you the opportunity to use the Lifeguard function and pick them up?
i ask because that is what i am experiencing...for the first time. it has been years since i have performed lifeguard duty in sub school so remind me how close must i be for the lifeguard icon to light up (assuming it will light up)?

the answer is: yes. you can play lifeguard during a mission other than lifeguard. and. 500 yards at 1 kt seems to be the max distance and acceptable speed. could it be done at 2 or 3 kt? don't know. in this instance, it must have been an USN attack plane because there were two aviators at the same location. anyway, now it is part of the knowledge base.

Moonless night in Truk with a storm and used the deck gun on a silhouette I could not ID.
Sink it ... Look it's a hospital ship ... sure you want to be kind but it has an IJN flag ... get court martialed again.

I'm sorry we didn't see your post sooner Admiral Lutjens. Besides KaleunMarco's comments, if you run into trouble with SH4 after installing a mod, the first thing to check is to de-activate the mod in JSGME and make certain the Stock game runs. One BIG thing to remember about the SH series of games is that they do not do well in the "C:\Program Files (x86)" if you mod the game. Another thing that can influence your install is the LAA (Large Address Aware) applet. It allows the game to address more of your RAM. All of the SH games run better with the use of it, but mega-mods like FotRSU have to have it properly applied, else the game won't hardly run. One last thing (for now) is that the game has to have the DirectX v9.0c that came with the game installed. If you don't have it installed, the game is missing some library files it needs to be able to run. The thing to do, is post back with some of your computer specs, such as CPU, amount of RAM, video card you're using, and which Operating System you are using. It would also be good to know what path you have the game installed in.
